Every fitted wardrobe company lists the same benefits. We would rather explain what they mean in a real London bedroom, with the numbers we see in our own projects across Victorian terraces, 1930s semis and new-build flats.
Ten benefits, briefly
- Around 30% more storage from the same wall.
- Floor to ceiling and wall to wall: no dead space, no dust traps.
- Awkward rooms solved: chimney breasts, alcoves, slopes and bays.
- An interior planned around your clothes, not a catalogue.
- A calmer room: one clean run instead of separate pieces.
- Made in London to your measurements, fitted in 21 days.
- A fixture that stays with the property and helps it sell.
- Fifteen door styles and over a hundred finishes.
- Soft-close hinges and runners, lighting if you want it.
- A 10-year guarantee on the furniture and the fitting.
1. More storage from the same wall
A standard freestanding wardrobe stops around 2 metres high and 600mm from the corner. Fitted furniture runs to the ceiling and into the corner, and the difference is bigger than it looks: the top 400mm of a 3-metre run is a shelf as long as the wall for suitcases, bedding and winter coats. Clients who replace freestanding units typically gain 30% to 50% more usable space without the room feeling any fuller.
2. Awkward rooms become the easy ones
Most London bedrooms have something a catalogue cannot cope with. Two alcoves either side of a chimney breast that differ by 40mm. A sloping ceiling in a loft conversion. A bay window that takes the best wall. A boxed-in soil pipe in a flat. Made to measure means each carcase is cut to its own opening, scribed to the wall and ceiling, and the shape of the room becomes an advantage rather than a problem. Our alcove guide and loft guide go into the detail.
3. An interior planned around what you own
A fitted wardrobe starts with a conversation about your clothes: how much long hanging you need for coats and dresses, whether shirts can double-hang, how many pairs of shoes, where the jewellery goes. The interior is then drawn to those quantities, so nothing is squeezed and nothing is wasted. Pull-out rails, shoe racks, trouser hangers and jewellery drawers fit within the standard unit price; the interior guide explains the options.

4. A calmer, finished room
Separate pieces of furniture make a bedroom read as a collection of objects. One fitted run, in a single finish, with doors that align and a plinth that meets the skirting, reads as part of the architecture. The room looks larger and quieter, and there is nothing to dust behind.
5. Made in London, fitted in 21 days
Everything we make is cut, edged and drilled at our own workshop in Wembley on CAD-controlled machinery, then installed by our own employed fitters, usually within 21 days of sign-off and in one to two days on site. Because one company designs, makes and fits, there is one point of contact and no dispute between supplier and installer if something needs adjusting.
6. A fixture that helps the property sell
Fitted wardrobes stay when you move and are listed as a feature by London agents, because storage is the thing buyers and tenants ask about first. They rarely add their full cost to a valuation, but they remove an objection and speed a sale or a let. The value guide weighs this up properly.
7. Fifteen door styles, one carcase
Slab, shaker, in-frame, raised panel, arched, fluted, grooved, handleless, mirror and glass: fifteen door styles across our Classic, Contemporary and Statement collections, in more than a hundred finishes. Behind every one is the same 18mm moisture-resistant carcase with soft-close hinges. The door styles page shows them all.
8. A price fixed in writing
Made-to-measure wardrobes start from £900 per metre at Level 3 of our price guide, so a two-metre wardrobe from £1,800, rising by door style to £3,720 per metre at Level 12, including VAT and installation. The quotation is itemised and fixed after a free home design visit, and no deposit is taken at the visit.
9 and 10. Soft-close, lighting and a ten-year guarantee
Soft-close hinges and drawer runners are standard. Sensor-operated LED lighting is an option at around £100 per light. And every piece we design, make and install carries a 10-year guarantee on the furniture and the workmanship, handed over as a certificate on the day the fitters leave.
Frequently asked questions
What are the main benefits of fitted wardrobes?
More storage from the same wall (around 30% more than freestanding), a made-to-measure fit around chimney breasts, alcoves and sloping ceilings, an interior planned around your clothes, a calmer finished room, and a fixture that stays with the property. Metro wardrobes add a 10-year guarantee and installation within 21 days.
Are fitted wardrobes good for small bedrooms?
Especially so. Floor-to-ceiling fitted wardrobes with sliding or mirrored doors use the full height of the wall and need no swing space, which is how a small London bedroom gains storage without losing floor.
How long does it take to get fitted wardrobes?
From a free home design visit you receive a 3D design and quotation within two to three days. Once you confirm, manufacture and installation usually take 21 days, with one to two days on site.
Do fitted wardrobes come with a guarantee?
Yes. Metro gives a 10-year guarantee on the furniture and the installation, with soft-close hinges and runners carrying their own manufacturer warranty on top.
