Fitted Wardrobes

Original cornicing and panelling deserve to stay.
Walk into a Georgian or Victorian bedroom on Albert Street, Arlington Road, or anywhere around Camden Square. The first thing you notice isn't the size of the room. It's the original plaster cornicing, deep skirtings, and panelled detailing. That's the bit that made you (or your buyer) fall for the house. Flatpack wardrobes solve their height problem by running straight over the cornicing or boxing it in. The room loses what made it special.
We measure to the underside of the cornicing, not to the ceiling. The workshop cuts the carcase to stop cleanly below it with an 8mm shadow gap. The cornicing stays visible and unbroken. Skirting either stays in place behind the unit, gets scribed around, or is replaced with a matched profile if the original was already damaged.
Three-storey Georgian staircases reject standard wardrobe panels.
Camden's Georgian and early-Victorian terraces are tall houses on narrow plots. A typical staircase between ground and first floor is 700 to 850mm wide, with a sharp turn at the half-landing. Standard pre-assembled wardrobe panels are usually 600 to 1200mm. They physically cannot make the bend. National flatpack brands either turn the job down or damage the bannister trying.
On the home visit, we measure every staircase, doorway, and turn. The workshop then cuts each carcase into 400mm modular sections. Small enough to go up three Georgian flights without scuffing anything. Our fitters assemble and join the sections in your bedroom. Once the doors are on, you can't see the joins.
Camden Lock conversions hide a 600mm drop behind the perimeter ceiling.
Warehouse conversions around Camden Lock, Hawley Wharf, and the canal industrial belt look like loft-style flats with 3-metre ceilings. They are, in the middle of the room. But around the perimeter, where the wardrobes go, services-bulkheads typically drop the usable ceiling to around 2.4m. That's where the new ductwork, sprinklers, and plumbing got hidden when the building was converted. A full-height wardrobe simply won't fit.
On the home visit, we measure the bulkhead height, not the room height. We also check the depth of any service drops along the wardrobe wall. The workshop then builds to the bulkhead dimension with a clean shadow gap above. The wardrobe sits flush below the drop, which makes it look intended rather than compromised.

Cornicing left fully exposed with a clean shadow gap above each unit. Pull-down hanging rails inside, soft-close drawers, motion-sensor LED. Seven weeks from first visit to install.
Georgian house spare bedroom converted to walk-in dressing room
The situation: Owner of a three-storey Georgian house off Camden Square wanted to convert the smallest bedroom, originally a nursery, into a proper walk-in dressing room. National brands wanted to put full-height units on three walls, which would have shrunk the room. The narrow staircase also ruled out delivering anything pre-assembled.
What they got: Walk-in layout built around a central island drawer unit, with open hanging on two walls. Carcases cut into 400mm sections at the workshop and assembled in the room by our fitters. Little Greene French Grey, brushed-brass handles. Mirror-fronted central pillar with LED running the perimeter. Eight weeks, start to finish.
Camden Lock warehouse conversion with services-bulkhead ceiling
The situation: Young professional in a one-bedroom canal-side flat near Camden Lock. The bedroom had a 3-metre ceiling height in the centre, but the wall where the wardrobe was going had a 600mm services-bulkhead drop running the full length. Standard full-height wardrobes wouldn't fit. Building everything to 2.4m would have wasted the room's best feature.
What they got: Floor-to-bulkhead Sliding Wardrobe in fluted oak veneer with smoked-bronze frames. Sits flush below the services drop with a precise shadow gap above. One mirror panel doubled the perceived width of the room. Six weeks from design visit to keys back.
Parkway mansion block — full media wall with hidden storage
The situation: Family in a two-bedroom mansion-block flat off Parkway. The living room had high ceilings and good proportions but no built-in storage. The TV sat on a freestanding unit that looked like it had moved in with them and never left. They wanted a media wall that looked like it had always been part of the room, plus concealed storage for board games, books, and the cable mess.
What they got: Full-wall media unit with a central TV recess, floor-to-ceiling alcove cabinets either side for closed storage, open shelving above the TV for books and objects. Hand-painted in deep green to lift the existing room. Cable management routed behind the back panel, soft-close push-to-open drawers below, LED on the open shelves. Seven weeks.
