The Chelsea problem

A Chelsea bedroom often runs to a 3.1m ceiling under a deep ornate cornice. A standard 2.4m wardrobe leaves a metre of dead wall above it, and run to full height it would crash straight through the cornice plaster.

Metro's design answer

We build the run wall-to-wall and floor-to-cornice, measuring to the underside of the moulding so the carcase stops below it with a clean shadow gap. The cornice stays unbroken and the full height of the room becomes usable storage.

We fit a wall-to-wall media and library wall around the chimney breast: alcove cabinets to either side, a recessed TV bay, open shelving above, cable management hidden behind. Hand-painted, built in as if it had always been there.

Can you build a wardrobe to a 3-metre ceiling without covering the cornice?

Yes. We measure to the underside of the cornice and build the run floor-to-cornice with a clean shadow gap, so the moulding stays fully visible. Internal pull-down rails and upper drawers make the extra height usable rather than wasted.

Can you fit a media and library wall in a reception room?

Yes. We build wall-to-wall around the chimney breast: alcove cabinets either side, a recessed TV bay, open shelving above and concealed cable runs. It reads as joinery that was always part of the room, not a freestanding unit.

My flat has a small box room. Is it worth a walk-in?

Almost always. We work every wall floor-to-ceiling with hanging, shelving and a central island, so a room too tight for a bed becomes a proper dressing room with no wasted corners.
