Fitted furniture for Greenwich, made fifteen miles away in Wembley.

Greenwich is one of London's finest period quarters. Georgian terraces around the town centre and the Park, Victorian houses on the hill, and period homes split into flats. Tall sashes, shutters and chimney alcoves throughout, plus new-build on the Peninsula. Metro covers Greenwich from its Wembley HA9 workshop and templates every piece to your exact room.

Core serviceFitted wardrobes in Greenwich

Fitted Wardrobes

The most common job we do in SE10. Ten ranges across hinged, sliding, and walk-in builds. Every unit is cut to the room's actual dimensions and delivered in sections small enough for a Georgian staircase. Where original cornicing exists, the wardrobe stops below it with a clean shadow gap.

Fitted Kitchens

We started as a wardrobe specialist. Kitchens followed naturally. A big share of our SE10 kitchen work happens in Victorian galleys being opened up, and in canal-side conversions where the cabinetry has to slot in around immovable services. We build the cabinetry. You choose worktops, appliances, and splashbacks.

Living & Media Walls

A category that's grown a lot since 2020. Media walls in living rooms, home offices in reception rooms, alcove cabinets flanking original fireplaces, full bedroom suites. Most of these come up as a second project once the wardrobes are in.

London manufacturing · SE10 design

What Greenwich homes demand of a fitted-furniture maker.

Greenwich's housing has recurring quirks. Here is how our workshop handles each on a SE10 project.

Tall sash windows and shutters have to stay clear.
Period properties Greenwich design constraint · 01

Tall sash windows and shutters have to stay clear.

The Greenwich problem

A Greenwich bedroom is usually built around a tall sash window, sometimes with the original shutters still boxed into the reveal. A standard wardrobe along that wall covers the shutter box or fouls the sash.

Metro's manufacturing answer

We build the wall as one integrated run: floor-to-ceiling wardrobes tight to each side wall, scribed to stop at the shutter box, with a low fitted drawer-and-seat unit under the window between them.

No two chimney-breast alcoves are the same width.
Chimney breasts Greenwich design constraint · 02

No two chimney-breast alcoves are the same width.

The Greenwich problem

Almost every Greenwich terrace has a chimney breast in the principal bedroom with an alcove either side, and the two are never equal. A single standard carcase for both leaves gaps and filler strips.

Metro's manufacturing answer

Each alcove is templated on its own and filled floor-to-ceiling, wall to chimney breast. Two different carcases that read as a balanced pair.

Lower-ground conversions lose height and gain a damp wall.
Garden flats Greenwich design constraint · 03

Lower-ground conversions lose height and gain a damp wall.

The Greenwich problem

Many Greenwich houses are split into flats, and the lower-ground garden flat has reduced ceiling height around 2.3m and an external wall that can carry damp. An off-the-shelf wardrobe is the wrong height and traps moisture.

Metro's manufacturing answer

We build wall-to-wall and to the real 2.3m height, with a ventilated back so air moves behind the cabinets, scribing the run around any vault recess and shelving it out as storage.

How Greenwich homes actually use Metro

Common Greenwich wardrobe scenarios.

Most SE10 enquiries fall into a handful of property situations. Below is what each typically looks like.

Scenario 01

Terrace bedroom with tall sash and shutters

The situation: A couple near Royal Hill with original shutters they wanted kept. A chain quote would have boarded over the shutter box.

What they got: Floor-to-ceiling wardrobes either side of the sash, scribed to the shutter box, with a fitted drawer-and-seat run under the window. Shutters still fold, sash still slides.

Range: Heritage Painted Project size: ~£5,400
Scenario 02

Back bedroom with unequal chimney alcoves

The situation: Owners frustrated that two previous quotes used one carcase size for both alcoves, leaving gaps.

What they got: Each alcove templated separately and filled floor-to-ceiling under the picture rail. Two carcases that line up perfectly from the doorway.

Range: Built-In Project size: ~£4,300
Scenario 03

Lower-ground garden flat with a low ceiling

The situation: A garden flat with a 2.3m ceiling and a slightly damp front wall by the vault.

What they got: A wall-to-wall run built to 2.3m with a ventilated back, scribed around the vault and shelving it out. No trapped damp, no wasted corners.

Range: Sliding Door Project size: ~£6,000
Scenario 04

Period conversion needing a compact dressing area

The situation: A one-bed conversion where the bedroom had an awkward return beside the chimney.

What they got: A fitted run turning the corner around the chimney return, hanging plus drawers, hand-painted to match the period trim.

Range: Shaker Project size: ~£4,800
From Metro clients

What homeowners say after working with us.

Amazing experience and highly recommended

"It was a wonderful experience to design my 4 wardrobes with Palak (Metro Wardrobes). They are expert in what they do. I got such a lovely input from Palak and full flexibility while designing my wardrobe. I would like to complement the whole team right from the owner James to the fitting person Sumit, and last but not the least Sameer and Jinal. It was very homely talking to each one of them. I have already received lot of compliments. "

Excellent service and products

"Highly recommend them! Our designer, Nassy, visited our house and took measurements. We later met her at their showroom, where we were able to see the quality of the material and choose the colours. Nassy also sent us a 3D render of what the wardrobe would look like, which helped us visualize the end product. The fitting team was a delight! They made sure we were happy with the end result and left the apartment immaculately clean. "

Greenwich: common questions

A few things SE10 clients tend to ask.

Can you fit wardrobes around the original sash windows and shutters?
Yes. We measure the shutter box and window reveal and stop the wardrobe run at that line, scribed with a shadow gap, so the shutters still fold and the sash still slides.
My chimney-breast alcoves are different widths. Will it still look even?
We template each alcove separately and build two different carcases, both filled floor-to-ceiling, so they read as a balanced pair even though the sizes differ.
I'm in a lower-ground garden flat with a low ceiling and a damp wall. Can you help?
Yes. We build wall-to-wall to the real 2.3m height with a ventilated back so air moves behind the cabinets, and scribe the run around any vault recess, shelving it out as storage.
Will the wardrobe panels get up a narrow period staircase?
Yes. We measure the staircase and turns on the visit, then cut each carcase into 400mm sections small enough to carry up. Our fitters assemble them in the room.
How much does a fitted wardrobe in Greenwich cost?
Most SE10 projects fall between £3,800 and £8,500, depending on size, range, finish and internal fit-out. Every quote is fixed and itemised before you sign.
What's the difference between Metro and a national chain like Hammonds or Sharps?
We make in London, fifteen miles away in Wembley, not a Midlands factory. Every piece is cut for your exact room, and the team that designs, builds and fits is all ours, with no subcontractors.
Do you cover the Georgian terraces in West Greenwich?
Yes. We work around original sashes, shutters and cornicing, scribing the run to the period detail in each room.
