Fitted Foyer Units

Marlow Fitted Foyer Unit

The Marlow Fitted Foyer Unit is a made-to-measure hallway run that puts everything an entrance needs on one wall: a place to sit and take off shoes, somewhere to hang a coat, drawers for the things that otherwise live on the floor, and a surface for keys and post. It is built to the width of your hall and the height of your ceiling, so the run finishes at the cornice rather than stopping short of it.

The finish is olive green shaker with brass T-bar handles, warmed by an oak-effect slatted panel behind the bench and a cream upholstered seat. The interiors are Cotta Cremona Oak, our most chosen internal finish, so the coat cupboard reads as furniture when it is open as well as closed.

How it works: the run is three pieces built as one. A full-height double-door cupboard at the left takes coats on a rail with a drawer beneath for gloves and scarves. The bench in the middle is a solid 18mm seat with three drawers under it on full-extension soft-close runners, for shoes, boots and the dog lead. At the right, two upper cupboards sit over a lit niche with a worktop, and a two-door cupboard below takes the vacuum and the shopping bags.

Behind the bench, a slatted panel is fixed to a solid back board so the four brass hooks are screwed into timber, not plaster. The shelf above it is lit from beneath, and so is the niche, on one switch by the door.

Designed around how you come home

A hallway is used for thirty seconds at a time, so the order of the run matters: the bench where you stop, the hooks at the height you reach, the drawers where a shoe comes off. The Marlow is planned around that sequence at the design visit, and around who lives in the house.

  • Full-height coat cupboard with rail and drawer beneath
  • Bench seat with upholstered cushion over three soft-close drawers
  • Oak-effect slatted panel with four brass coat hooks
  • Lit shelf above the bench for baskets and post
  • Lit niche with a worktop for keys, a plant and a hand wash
  • Two upper cupboards and a two-door base cupboard
  • Brass T-bar handles and concealed soft-close hinges
  • Integrated LED strip lighting (warm white, white and yellow)
  • Built to the ceiling, with no gap above

Designed for the whole household: the hooks can be set at two heights, the bench drawers divided for boots and trainers, and the base cupboard given a charging point for a scooter or a vacuum. Where the hall is narrower, the same run is built shallower, with the bench reduced to a perch.

Built for everyday use: the bench fronts and drawers take knocks from boots, so they carry a softened 2mm edge rather than a square one, and the seat is a solid 18mm board rather than a thin lid. Every carcass has a solid 18mm back, fixed to the wall, so the run stands square on a hallway floor that rarely is.

The Marlow shown is about 2.7 metres of wall; the same three pieces are planned to a wider hall with a longer bench, or to a narrower one without the right-hand cupboards.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

Your foyer unit is made to measure and cut in our HA9 Wembley factory from the survey of your hall. The beam saw cuts each carcass panel to its own size, the CNC drills the hinge and shelf positions, and the industrial edge-bander finishes every visible edge, so the doors, drawers and seat leave the workshop as one matched set.

The slatted panel is cut and spaced on the CNC to the width of your bench, and the hook positions are drilled through it into the back board before it is delivered.

The hall width, ceiling height, skirting, the door swing and the position of the light switch are all measured at your design visit, and the run is scribed to the walls and floor on installation.

Quality you can rely on: your Metro fitted furniture comes with a 10-year guarantee on our product.

Frequently Asked Questions

Marlow Fitted Foyer Unit FAQs

What is the Marlow Fitted Foyer Unit?
A made-to-measure hallway run in olive green shaker: a full-height coat cupboard, a bench seat over three drawers with a slatted panel and brass hooks behind it, and cupboards above and below a lit niche. It is built to your hall width and ceiling height in our Wembley workshop and fitted by our own team.
How much wall does it need?
The Marlow shown takes about 2.7 metres. The three pieces scale to the hall: a longer bench in a wider hall, or the coat cupboard and bench alone where there is less wall. The depth is planned to leave a clear walkway past it, which in most London hallways means a run of 350mm to 450mm deep with the bench a little deeper.
Can the hooks and bench be set for children?
Yes. The hooks are drilled through the slatted panel into a solid back board, so they can be set at two heights or moved later, and the bench height is chosen at the design visit. The drawers under the seat are divided for boots and trainers if you want them to be.
Is the bench strong enough to sit on every day?
Yes. The seat is a solid 18mm board on a carcass with its own 18mm back, not a lid on a box, and the drawers beneath run on full-extension soft-close runners rated for daily use. The cushion is upholstered separately so the cover can be cleaned or changed.
Can I have a different colour or door style?
Yes. The Marlow is shown in olive green shaker with brass handles, and the same run can be made in any of our painted colours or woodgrains, in slab or shaker doors, with black, brass or knob handles. Samples are brought to your home so the colour is chosen in your hallway light.
Do you fit foyer units across London?
Yes. Metro designs, manufactures and installs fitted foyer and hallway units across London and the surrounding counties. The run is fitted within 21 days of your order being confirmed, usually in a single day on site, and carries a 10-year guarantee.
Edge Detail

The Three Hallway Edge Details

In a hallway the edges are where the boots are — the bench front, the drawers under the seat, the base doors a bag swings into. These are the edges we specify a softened band on, and the seat is banded before it is upholstered. Your designer confirms them at the visit.
01
1mm ABS Square Edge MARLOW FOYER UNIT
The standard edge on a shaker door: a 1mm band in the same colour as the face, applied by machine and trimmed square. It is the edge on the coat cupboard and the upper doors, above the height anything knocks into them, where the cleanest line matters most.

02
2mm ABS Softened Edge
A thicker 2mm band with the corner taken off to a small radius. It is specified on the bench front, the drawer fronts under the seat and the base cupboard doors: the fronts at shin and boot height in a hallway, where a square edge chips and a softened one shrugs it off.

03
Banded Seat Edge
The front edge of the bench seat, where wet coats are dropped and boots are pulled off. The 18mm seat board is banded on its front and both ends before the cushion goes on, so there is no raw core for water to reach, and the band is the softened 2mm type so a shin meets a radius rather than a corner.
