We build the wall as one integrated run: floor-to-ceiling wardrobes tight to each side wall, scribed to stop at the shutter box, with a low fitted drawer-and-seat unit under the sash between them. The shutters still fold, the sash still slides, and not a centimetre of the wall is left as dead space.

Each alcove is measured and templated on its own, then filled floor-to-ceiling, wall to chimney breast, with no gaps to either side. The workshop builds two different carcases to the millimetre. From the doorway they read as a symmetrical pair, even though nothing behind the doors is the same size.

We build the run wall-to-wall and to the real 2.3m height, with a ventilated back so air moves behind the cabinets rather than trapping damp. Where the under-pavement vault cuts into the wall, we scribe the units around it and shelve the recess out as usable storage instead of losing it.
