Osborne Over-Bed Wardrobe London

The Osborne Over-Bed Wardrobe is the over-bed arrangement for a room under the roof. The bridging cabinets above the bed follow a sloping ceiling with a rooflight, the tower on the sloping side steps down to a drawer bank under the eaves, and the whole run is in Premium White with small round knobs, so the wardrobe reads as part of a white attic room rather than furniture placed in it.

Either side of the headboard an open niche is lit from above and sits over a built-in bedside chest, and the recess behind the bed is lit along its top edge. Inside and out the finish is the same white.

How it works: the bridging cabinets are fixed to the wall above the headboard and land on the full-height towers at each end; on the sloping side the tower and the cabinets above it are cut to the pitch of the roof, so the row of doors steps down with the ceiling. The bedside niches are open carcasses within the towers, lit by an LED strip in their tops, with a drawer chest below each.

Doors are 18mm MFC slabs on concealed soft-close hinges, with round knobs in place of bar handles.

Knobs rather than bars are a deliberate choice for an attic room. A row of bars on doors of different heights draws a stepped line across the wall; a knob on each door is a dot, and the eye does not connect them.

Making better use of the wall: an attic bed wall is usually the worst wall in the room — low at one end, interrupted by a rooflight. The Osborne uses the low end for drawers, the high end for hanging, the middle for the bed, and the strip above for cabinets, so the awkward wall becomes the one that holds everything.

Built for everyday use: 18mm MFC throughout, with a solid 18mm back, top and bottom to every carcass. The angled carcasses under the slope have their own backs like the rest, and the bridging cabinets are fixed through theirs into the wall.

The finish shown is Premium White inside and out; other door finishes, bar handles in place of knobs, and a contrasting interior are all available.

Every angled panel on the Osborne is cut on our beam saw in our HA9 Wembley factory to the roof pitch taken at your survey, and every carcass is drilled on the CNC so the knobs, the drawer fronts and the door tops line through across the run even where the heights change.

The lit niches and the bedhead recess are routed for their LED strips before they leave the factory, and every visible edge — including the angled ones — is banded in the same white.

The roof pitch, the rooflight, the bed and the wall are all measured at your design visit, before anything is made.
