About This Style

The Blackheath Slab Island Kitchen is a two-tone kitchen: matt white slab base units and an island under oak woodgrain wall units, with a black marble-effect worktop, island top and splashback tying the two together. Lit open shelving sits between the wall units, a black fridge-freezer stands at the end of the run, and two timber stools tuck under the island.

The four renders show the island under the window, the oak wall units and open shelving with the fridge, the black marble-effect splashback behind the island, and the sink run. Cabinets are made to the room in Wembley, installed by the team that built them, with ten years of cover on every part.

Blackheath Slab Island Kitchen

The Blackheath Slab Island Kitchen is planned for a family room where the kitchen is looked at as much as cooked in. An L-shaped back run of matt white slab base units carries the sink under the window and the hob on the return, oak woodgrain wall units with lit open bays between them run above, and a white island with a black marble-effect top stands in the middle with two timber stools.

The black marble-effect surface runs from the worktop up the splashback and across the island top, so the two-tone cabinets are held together by one dark line. A black full-height fridge-freezer closes the run.

How it works: the base units and island are made-to-measure carcasses with a handleless rail routed into the top edge of each front; the oak wall units hang on the same rail line. Drawers run on full-extension soft-close runners; doors hang on concealed soft-close hinges. The island is a run of drawers and cupboards on both sides with a breakfast overhang on concealed steel brackets.

Designed around how you cook and gather

The island faces the room, so whoever is cooking at the hob on the return can talk to whoever is sitting at the island. The sink under the window keeps the washing up in the light.

  • L-shaped back run with sink under the window and hob on the return
  • Oak wall units with lit open shelving between them
  • Island with drawers both sides and a breakfast overhang for two
  • Black marble-effect worktop, splashback and island top, templated together
  • Black full-height fridge-freezer and eye-level oven tower
  • Routed handleless rail on every door and drawer
  • Full-extension soft-close drawers, concealed soft-close hinges
  • Matt white and oak fronts, Cotta Cremona Oak interiors

Designed for the room: the run shown is about 4.0 metres along the window wall and 2.6 metres on the return, with a 2.0 metre island. The same pieces are drawn to your room at the design visit.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

Every panel of the Blackheath is cut in our HA9 Wembley factory to the survey of your room: the beam saw sizes every carcass panel, the CNC drills the hinge and runner positions, and the edge-bander finishes every visible edge, so the run arrives as one matched set.

The oak wall units and the white base units are cut from the same survey so the rail line and the open bays align along the whole run.

At the design visit we record the room, the light, the services and the appliance models; on installation the units are scribed to the walls and the floor.

Quality you can rely on: your Metro fitted kitchen comes with a 10-year guarantee covering parts and labour.

“Excellent service from design consultation through to completion. Great value with superb quality fitted wardrobes. The designer - Nitesh - helped us maximise the available storage space without busting our budget. The crew led by Sandeep was very professional, meticulous in the build and left the house spotless. We selected the super matt finish which is a little bit more expensive but looks fantastic. Our bedroom is transformed in the best possible way.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Blackheath Slab Island Kitchen FAQs

What is the Blackheath Slab Island Kitchen?
A two-tone handleless kitchen: matt white slab base units and island under oak woodgrain wall units, with a black marble-effect worktop, island top and splashback, lit open shelving and a black fridge-freezer. Made in Wembley to your room and fitted by Metro's own team.
Why two colours?
White base units keep the lower half of the room light and easy to clean; oak wall units bring warmth at eye level and stop a white kitchen feeling clinical. The black marble-effect worktop between them gives the eye a line to follow along the run.
How much room does the island need?
At least 1,000mm of clear floor on every side you walk around, and 1,200mm where the dishwasher opens into the gap. Where there is less, the same island becomes a peninsula returning to the wall.
Does black marble mark?
The render shows a black marble-effect quartz composite, which is non-porous and needs no sealing. Real marble is available but shows water marks and acids more than quartz; your designer will show both samples.
Are the open shelves practical?
They are lit from above and finished on every face, and they are meant for the things you use every day: glasses, oils, the coffee. Everything else goes behind the doors either side.
Can I have a different colour?
Yes. The Blackheath is shown in white and oak. The same kitchen can be made in any of our painted colours or woodgrains, and the two tones can be swapped or matched.
Edge Detail

The Three Kitchen Edge Details

In a kitchen the edges are where the water and the knocks are: the worktop joint at the sink, the drawer fronts at hip height, the wall units at eye level. These are the edges we specify, and your designer confirms them at the visit.
01
1mm ABS Square Edge BLACKHEATH KITCHEN
The standard edge on a slab kitchen door: a 1mm band in the same colour or grain as the face, applied by machine and trimmed square. It is the edge on the wall units and the tall housings, where the cleanest line matters most.

02
2mm ABS Softened Edge
A thicker 2mm band with the corner taken off to a small radius. It goes on the base unit doors and the pan drawer fronts, the fronts a hip meets and a pan handle catches, where a square edge chips and a softened one takes it.

03
Sealed Worktop Joint
The kitchen edge. Where the worktop meets the wall, the sink and the hob cut-out, the joint is sealed so water runs across the top and off it rather than into the board beneath. The upstand covers the wall joint; the sink and hob cut-outs are sealed on the day the stone is fitted.
