In traditional cabinetmaking, the most expensive detail is an in-frame door — a door set inside a fixed outer frame, with a fine reveal all round. The Mock In-Frame family recreates that double-frame geometry in one pressed board: an outer frame, a stepped reveal, then the door profile inside it, all routed into an 18mm E1-grade MDF core and wrapped in one seamless skin. Three doors share the look — Rathlin, Salisbury and Ealing — with wide stiles — 95mm on the Rathlin — as the style demands.

Some colours turn a wardrobe into the room’s calm centre — this soft powder blue is one of them, and the door wearing it makes it read as true cabinetry. The Mock In-Frame family recreates the costliest detail in traditional joinery: a door set within its own fixed frame, complete with the fine stepped reveal all round. Shown on the Rathlin with slim brass bars and a lit display bay.

How it works: the double-frame geometry — outer frame, stepped reveal, inner door profile — is routed into a single 18mm E1-grade MDF core (PEFC/FSC® accredited) and wrapped in one seamless skin, so the in-frame look arrives without in-frame joinery’s movement, cracking or price. Stiles run 95mm as the style demands; doors hang on soft-close hinges with your choice of handles.

Blue, the new neutral

The Blue Fitted Wardrobe uses a pale blue-grey that behaves like a neutral, on a door that behaves like something far more expensive. The Rathlin is a mock in-frame: its 95mm stiles are wide enough that the frame reads as a fixed surround and the panel as a door set within it, which is how traditional in-frame cabinetry is built — without the cost of actually building it that way.

The run shown wraps a lit, oak-lined niche with three drawers beneath, and the same blue carries onto a dressing table with a round mirror above it, so the wardrobe and the place you get ready are one piece.

How it works: an 18mm E1-grade MDF door machined with a wide flat stile and a stepped inner frame, wrapped in 5G vinyl so the step is part of the door rather than an applied moulding. Long brass bar handles run the height of the stile.

A pale blue on a wide frame does something a strong blue cannot: it lets the shadow lines of the in-frame step provide the definition, so the colour can stay soft.

Designed around how you use your room

The Rathlin suits a room with some period detail — cornicing, a panelled door — because the wide frame answers it. It is drawn here with top boxes, a central niche and a dressing table.

Built for everyday use: the wide stiles stiffen a tall door, so it closes true on its soft-close hinges year after year, and the brass bars keep hands off the pale face.

The interior finish is chosen at the design visit; the niche shown is oak.

A mock in-frame door is only convincing if the stepped inner frame sits at exactly the same depth on every door, because the eye reads the whole run as one surround. That depth is a single CNC setting in our HA9 Wembley factory, applied to every door in the commission.

The stepped inner frame is a single depth setting on the CNC across every door, the boards are cut on the beam saw, and the dressing table comes out of the same vinyl batch as the doors.

Surveyed first, made in Wembley, installed by our own fitters, and covered by a 10-year parts and labour guarantee.

What is a mock in-frame door?

A door pressed with the geometry of traditional in-frame cabinetry — an outer frame, a fine stepped reveal, and the door profile within — from one stable board. You get the costliest look in joinery without its movement or price.

Can the dressing table and shelves match?

Yes — as in the render, desks, dressing tables, bedside units and open bays are built from the same materials in the same finish, so the whole wall reads as one piece of furniture.

What is the difference between mock in-frame and true in-frame?

True in-frame cabinetry has a separate solid frame fixed to the carcass, with each door hung inside it. Mock in-frame machines the same stepped look into the face of a single door on 95mm stiles, so you get the visual depth of a surround without a second frame to build, fit and align. It is most of the look for a fraction of the joinery.

Can the dressing table be somewhere else in the room?

Yes. It is a separate carcass in the same door and finish, so it can sit under a window, in an alcove or on the return of the wardrobe. What it needs is daylight or a good mirror light, and enough width for a stool to sit under it.
