The shaker wardrobe is Britain’s default for a reason: a framed door with a flat panel suits every ceiling height, every era of house and every colour you could paint a wall. This page is our whole Plain Shaker family — eight doors sharing one construction, differing only in the width of the frame, from the barely-there Vilo (12mm) to the boldly traditional Athlone (110mm). Shown in soft white with brass T-bars on the Chelsea, the family favourite.

How it works: the frame and panel are routed into an 18mm E1-grade MDF core (PEFC/FSC® accredited), then wrapped in one seamless skin — no rails, no joints, no paint lines to crack. Doors hang on soft-close hinges with your choice of handles, and every carcass is cut to your measured wall in our Wembley workshop.

Why the shaker never dates

The Shaker Fitted Wardrobe is the door that does not date, on stiles sized so it does not dominate. The Chelsea is a plain shaker — flat frame, recessed panel, no bead, no moulding — on 63mm stiles, and the run shown carries it wall to wall in white with a row of top boxes to the cornice.

A dressing table in the same door sits beneath a round mirror at the end of the run, so the shaker frame continues across the room at desk height. Long brass bar handles run vertically on every door and horizontally on the drawers.

How it works: an 18mm E1-grade MDF door machined with the shaker recess, wrapped in 5G vinyl. The Chelsea belongs to the plain shaker family, which is offered in stile widths from 12mm to 110mm; 63mm is the width that reads traditional in a room with cornicing without turning the wardrobe into panelling.

White on a shaker door shows the frame as shadow rather than colour, which is why it works in a room that already has white panelled doors and skirting.

Which shaker stile width should I choose?

Room and era decide: slim frames (12–40mm) suit modern flats and smaller rooms; the classic 60–70mm reads timeless anywhere; wide frames (90–110mm) suit high-ceilinged period rooms. Your designer brings samples so you can hold them against your wall.

Are these real shaker doors or a shaker look?

The profile is real — a true frame-and-panel geometry — but pressed from a single board rather than joined from five pieces, so there are no joints to open and no paint lines to crack. You keep the look and lose the maintenance.

Can I have shaker doors without handles?

Yes — see our Lane door, which pairs a 75mm shaker frame with a handleless J-pull top edge. This family uses handles: bars, knobs or cups from our library.

How do I choose a stile width?

By the room. Narrow stiles, 12 to 30mm, let the panel dominate and read modern. Wide stiles, 90mm and up, read as period panelling. The 63mm Chelsea sits in the middle, which is why it is the one shown: it answers cornicing and a panelled door without competing with them. Your designer brings samples at two or three widths so you can see them against your own wall.

Can the top boxes go right to the cornice?

Yes. The top-box row is cut to the height taken at survey and scribed to the cornice on site, so there is no gap above it collecting dust. Where a cornice is deep, a shadow gap is left below it so the moulding still reads as moulding rather than being buried.
