Chiswick Gloss Kitchen London

The Chiswick Gloss Kitchen puts the most storage a kitchen can hold into a room of ordinary size. Three walls of cream high-gloss cabinets, base and wall, with the wall units taken to the ceiling, and the sink under the window at the far end so the cook looks out. The gloss reflects the daylight around the room, which is why the finish suits a kitchen that is deeper than it is wide.

The fronts are handleless, with a slim rail along the top edge of each door and drawer, and the splashback is a white marble-effect panel that runs the length of the back wall behind the worktop. The floor is dark timber, which grounds the pale cabinets.

How it works: the base units run along three walls with corner units that turn the two corners using pull-out mechanisms, so nothing is lost behind a return. The wall units are 900mm high and sit on the splashback, with a lit shelf line under them. The oven is housed under the worktop on one return and the washing machine at the end of the other, behind a matching door or open as shown.

The high-gloss finish is a lacquered face on a stable board core, banded on every edge, that wipes clean with a cloth.

Designed around a compact room

A U-shaped kitchen is the most efficient plan for one cook: sink, hob and fridge on three sides, everything within two steps. It needs 2.4 metres or more between the facing runs, which is why it suits the deep kitchens of London terraces.

Designed for the room: where the room is narrower, one return is dropped to make an L; where there is a door in a return, the run stops at it with an end panel. The laundry can be moved to a utility run if there is one.

Built for a working kitchen: gloss shows every ripple, so the fronts are cut and lacquered flat in the workshop and hung on adjustable hinges so the reflections line through across the run. The carcasses are 18mm board with solid 18mm backs.

The Chiswick shown has a back run of about 3 metres with returns of 2.4 and 2.1 metres. The same plan is drawn to your room at the design visit.

In our HA9 Wembley factory the Chiswick is cut to the survey of your room: carcass panels on the beam saw, the handleless rail routed into each front on the CNC, hinge and runner positions drilled, and every visible edge banded in the same gloss.

The corner units are built with their pull-out mechanisms fitted, and the appliance housings to the models you choose, before the run leaves the workshop.

The room, the window and the services are measured at the visit, along with the appliance models, and the run is scribed to the three walls when it is fitted.
