Clapham Shaker Kitchen London

The Clapham Shaker Kitchen is planned for the small kitchen most London houses actually have. Three walls of white shaker units, base and wall, with black bar handles, a black fridge-freezer standing by the door, the sink under the window on the far wall and the washing machine built into the run beside a tall cupboard. Nothing is oversized, and nothing is wasted.

White shaker with black handles is the finish that suits a period house without trying to look old, and it makes a small room feel larger by keeping the walls and the units the same tone. The splashback is a marble-effect panel under the wall units, and the worktop is white.

How it works: the doors are framed shaker fronts on concealed soft-close hinges and the drawers are pan drawers on full-extension runners behind matching fronts, with black bar handles drilled to one setting-out across the run. The wall units sit on the splashback with an LED strip beneath them. The fridge-freezer is housed at the end of the run by the door, and the washing machine and a tall larder cupboard fill the return beside it.

The corner where the two runs meet takes a corner unit with a pull-out, so the space behind the return is reached from the front.

Designed around a small room

In a compact kitchen the plan matters more than the finish. The sink under the window, the hob on the back run with worktop both sides, the fridge by the door and the tall things in one corner: the Clapham keeps the cook’s triangle short and the worktop clear.

Designed for the room: where the room is too narrow for a U, one return is dropped to make an L, and where there is a utility room the washing machine moves out to make room for a dishwasher.

Built for a working kitchen: the painted shaker fronts carry a durable factory finish that wipes clean, the carcasses are 18mm board with solid 18mm backs, and the appliance housings are built to the models you choose.

The Clapham shown has a back run of about 2.7 metres with returns of 2.1 and 1.8 metres. The same plan is drawn to your room at the design visit.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

The Clapham is cut to size in our HA9 Wembley factory from the survey of your room: carcass panels on the beam saw, hinge and runner positions on the CNC, every visible edge banded. The shaker fronts are made as frames with a fitted centre panel, finished in the workshop, and the bar handles are drilled to one setting-out across every front.

The corner unit is built with its pull-out fitted and the fridge and laundry housings to the models you choose before the run leaves the workshop.

Your designer takes the room, the window, the services and the appliance models at the visit; the fitters scribe the run to the walls and skirting on installation.
