The Hampstead Shaker Kitchen is the kitchen for a house that wants to look as if it has always had one. Sage green framed shaker doors, brass cup handles on the drawers and brass knobs on the doors, a white ceramic butler sink under a brass bridge tap, and a range cooker standing in the run with cupboards either side. From the far end, a peninsula returns into the room with a white worktop and two stools, lit by a row of wall lights.

The colour is a soft sage that reads green in daylight and grey in the evening, and the brass warms with use. The worktop is white, the floor is timber, and the run stops short of the ceiling with a small cornice.

How it works: the doors are five-piece shaker frames with a flat centre panel, hung on concealed soft-close hinges, and the drawers are deep pan drawers on full-extension runners behind matching shaker fronts. The sink base is built for the weight of a ceramic butler sink, with the worktop cut and sealed around it, and the range cooker sits in a gap sized to the model with the cabinets either side finished as end panels.

The peninsula is a run of base cabinets that returns from the wall at right angles, with drawers on the kitchen side and a breakfast overhang on the room side.

Designed around cooking at a range

A range cooker changes how a kitchen is planned: it wants worktop on both sides, a pan drawer near it and the sink within a step. The Hampstead is arranged around it, with the peninsula keeping company on the other side of the run.

Designed for the room: the peninsula suits a room that is not wide enough for an island, and the wall lights above it can be replaced by pendants. Where the range is not wanted, a built-in oven tower takes its place in the same run.

Built for a working kitchen: the carcasses are 18mm board with solid 18mm backs, the sink base is reinforced for the ceramic sink, and the painted shaker fronts carry a durable factory finish that wipes clean.

The Hampstead shown is a run of about 3.6 metres with a 1.5 metre peninsula. The same pieces are drawn to your room at the design visit.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

The Hampstead is made in our HA9 Wembley factory from the measurements taken in your kitchen: carcass panels on the beam saw, hinge and runner positions on the CNC, every visible edge banded. The shaker fronts are made as frames with a fitted centre panel, finished in the workshop, and the cup handles and knobs are drilled to one setting-out across every front.

The sink base is built to the ceramic sink you choose and the range gap to the cooker you choose, before the run leaves the workshop.

Your designer measures the room, the services and the cooker at the visit, and the fitters scribe the run to the walls and the floor on the day.
