Belgravia Black Island Kitchen

The Belgravia Black Island Kitchen is a kitchen designed as a single dark wall and a single dark block. The wall is matt black from floor to ceiling, base and wall units in handleless slab, with a white marble splashback set into it behind the hob and lit from the underside of the wall units, so the one pale panel in the wall is the one that is lit. The island in the room is the same black, with a white worktop, three grey stools along one side and two pendants above.

Matt black shows fingerprints less than gloss and reads as a colour rather than an absence of one against pale walls and a timber floor. The range cooker is stainless, the fridge-freezer black, and the worktops white on both the run and the island.

How it works: the wall run is made-to-measure carcasses with a handleless rail routed into each front, doors on concealed soft-close hinges and pan drawers on full-extension soft-close runners. The wall units are taken to the ceiling with a lit recess for the splashback. The range cooker sits in a gap sized to the model with end panels either side, and the fridge-freezer is housed at the end of the run. The island is a freestanding run of drawers and cupboards with a worktop overhang on the seating side, carried on concealed steel brackets.

The worktop is a white quartz on both the run and the island, templated once the cabinets are fitted.

Designed around a room that entertains

A dark kitchen wall with a lit splashback and a big island is a kitchen for people who cook with company. The cook faces the room across the island, the range is on the wall behind, and the stools are on the far side of the island where the pendants are.

  • Full wall of matt black handleless base and wall units to the ceiling
  • White marble splashback lit from the wall units above
  • Range cooker in the run, fridge-freezer housed at the end
  • Large black island with a white quartz top and seating for three
  • Two pendants over the island on their own circuit
  • Handleless rail on every door and drawer
  • Full-extension soft-close drawers, concealed soft-close hinges
  • Matt black fronts, Cotta Cremona Oak interiors

Designed for the room: the island is sized to the floor with 1,000mm clear on every walked side, and the seating side can take four stools in a wider room. The wall run can be drawn as an L where the room turns.

Built for a working kitchen: the matt black is a super-matt surface on 18mm board that resists fingerprints and wipes clean, banded on every edge in the same black. The carcasses have solid 18mm backs and the island is built as one unit with its own plinth.

The Belgravia shown has a wall run of about 4.5 metres and an island of 2.7 metres. The same pieces are drawn to your room at the design visit.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

Our HA9 Wembley factory cuts the Belgravia from the survey of your room: the beam saw sizes every carcass panel, the CNC routes the handleless rail into each front and drills the hinge and runner positions, and the edge-bander finishes every visible edge in matt black, so the wall and the island arrive as one matched set.

The lit splashback recess is built into the wall units and the island overhang engineered for the quartz before the stone is templated.

Measurements of the room, the services and the appliances are taken at the design visit, and the wall run and island are scribed in on the day of fitting.

Quality you can rely on: your Metro fitted kitchen comes with a 10-year guarantee on our product.

Frequently Asked Questions

Belgravia Black Island Kitchen FAQs

What is the Belgravia Black Island Kitchen?
A matt black handleless kitchen: a full wall of black base and wall units around a lit white marble splashback and a range cooker, and a large black island with a white worktop and seating for three. Both the wall and the island are made in Wembley to your room and fitted by our team.
Does a black kitchen show marks?
A super-matt black shows far fewer fingerprints than gloss and wipes clean with a damp cloth. Dust shows on any dark surface, which is why the worktops are white and the splashback is lit.
How is the splashback lit?
An LED strip runs along the underside of the wall units above the splashback panel, on its own switch and dimmable, in warm white, white or yellow. It is the working light for the hob and the mood light for the room.
How big does the room need to be?
For the island, at least 1,000mm of clear floor on every side you walk around and 1,200mm where a dishwasher opens into the gap: a room about 4 metres wide as a minimum for an island with seating. In a narrower room the island becomes a peninsula.
Can I have the island in a different colour?
Yes. Many clients keep the wall black and take the island in a woodgrain or a pale colour, or the other way round. Samples are brought to your home so the combination is chosen in your light.
How long does it take?
Fourteen to eighteen weeks is typical: three to six for the drawings, eight to fourteen in the workshop, and two to three on site, with the quartz templated after the run and the island are fitted.
Edge Detail

The Three Kitchen Edge Details

In a kitchen the edges are where the water and the knocks are: the worktop joint at the sink, the drawer fronts at hip height, the wall units at eye level. These are the edges we specify, and your designer confirms them at the visit.
01
1mm ABS Square Edge BELGRAVIA KITCHEN
The standard edge on a slab kitchen door: a 1mm band in the same colour or grain as the face, applied by machine and trimmed square. It is the edge on the wall units and the tall housings, where the cleanest line matters most.

02
2mm ABS Softened Edge
A thicker 2mm band with the corner taken off to a small radius. It goes on the base unit doors and the pan drawer fronts, the fronts a hip meets and a pan handle catches, where a square edge chips and a softened one takes it.

03
Sealed Worktop Joint
The kitchen edge. Where the worktop meets the wall, the sink and the hob cut-out, the joint is sealed so water runs across the top and off it rather than into the board beneath. The upstand covers the wall joint; the sink and hob cut-outs are sealed on the day the stone is fitted.
