Faraday Home Office

The Faraday Home Office is the fitted desk for the room under the roof. It runs low along the wall beneath two dormer windows — 800mm high, so nothing rises into the light — with a pair of cupboards at one end, a bank of four drawers, a desk with a chair space, and a drawer pedestal at the other end, all in Natural Casella Oak with small knobs.

The example shown uses the same oak on the fronts, the worktop and inside the cabinetry, so the run reads as a single piece of timber furniture set into a white loft rather than an office fitted into a bedroom.

How it works: the Faraday is built from 18mm E1-grade MFC with a solid back, in sections planned to the wall: storage where the wall is blank, the desk where the window is, so the working position has daylight and the cupboards do not. The worktop runs continuously across all of them.

Cupboard doors hang on soft-close hinges and the drawers run on soft-close runners; the desk section is left open beneath for a chair, with the pedestal beside it.

Designed around your working position: at 800mm the run sits below the sills of both dormers, so the light falls on the desk and the rest of the run stays a low shelf for a lamp, a plant and the things in daily use. Everything is reachable from the chair without standing.

Keeping your workspace organised: the four-drawer bank takes what a desk drawer usually fails to — files upright, stationery flat — and the cupboard at the end takes the printer and the archive. The worktop is kept clear because there is a drawer for everything under it.

Built for everyday use: 18mm MFC carcasses with a solid 18mm back, fixed to the wall so the worktop does not move when you lean on it, and finished in the same oak on every visible face.

A run under two windows is planned from the windows outwards, so the desk lines up with the light. The carcasses are cut on the beam saw in our HA9 Wembley factory to the sections drawn at your survey, and the worktop is cut in one length to span them.

Drawer runners and hinge positions are drilled on the CNC, and every edge — including the worktop’s front edge — is banded in Natural Casella Oak on industrial equipment so the grain runs unbroken across doors, drawers and top.

The windows, the wall and the roof slope are measured at your design visit, before anything is made.
