The grooved doors are texture as design: fine vertical v-grooves routed across the face turn each door into softly fluted panelling — the tongue-and-groove look loved in cottages and coastal rooms, and lately in every design magazine as “reeded”. The doors vary the groove pitch and framing (the Newport adds a 90mm frame around its grooves); all are routed into an 18mm E1-grade MDF core and wrapped in one seamless skin, so the grooves can never open or peel. About This Style

Sage green and soft flutes — the pairing every interiors editor has fallen for, and it earns the fuss: the colour calms the room while the grooves give the biggest surface in it a gentle, tactile rhythm that plain doors cannot manage. This is the Olivia, a door of fine vertical v-grooves from our 5G Vinyl collection, shown with a matching window seat.

How it works: the grooves are routed into an 18mm E1-grade MDF core (PEFC/FSC® accredited), then the whole face is wrapped in one seamless skin — so unlike painted tongue-and-groove, nothing can open, crack along a joint or peel. Groove pitch varies by door (tap the names above); the Newport frames its grooves in a 90mm border. Doors hang on soft-close hinges with knobs or bars from our library.

Why green took over the bedroom

The Green Fitted Wardrobe takes a colour that used to be a risk and makes it the calm option. Sage green on the Olivia door reads as a soft neutral in daylight, and the fine vertical grooves that run the full height of every door catch the light differently through the day, so the run never looks like one flat block of colour.

The arrangement shown does more than a wardrobe usually does. A lit, oak-lined niche opens in the centre of the run with three drawers beneath it, and the same green continues into a window seat with drawers under the cushion, so the storage wraps the room rather than lining one wall of it.

How it works: the Olivia is a grooved door — an 18mm E1-grade MDF door with close-set vertical grooves machined into the face before it is wrapped in 5G vinyl. The wrap follows every groove, so the texture is in the door, not printed on it. Round brass knobs sit on the flat margin at the door edge.

Grooved doors carry colour well because the shadow in each flute darkens the tone slightly. The sage shown reads greener on the door than the same vinyl would on a flat slab.

This is a bedroom where the wardrobe, the niche and the window seat are one commission, drawn together so the flute spacing lines through from door to seat front.

Built for everyday use: grooves hide fingermarks that a flat matt door shows, and knobs keep hands off the face altogether. The doors close on soft-close hinges.

The interior finish is chosen at the design visit, and the niche shown is lined in oak to warm the green.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

A grooved door is machined before it is wrapped, so the flute depth and spacing are set on the CNC in our HA9 Wembley factory and then have to line through across every door in the run — and across the window seat front.

The flutes are cut on the CNC, the boards go through the beam saw first to keep waste down, and the carcass edges are banded on the industrial line so the sage green stops cleanly at every edge.

Your room is surveyed before anything is cut, our own fitters install it, and it carries a 10-year parts and labour guarantee.

Is sage green a safe colour for a bedroom?

It is the most forgiving strong colour we fit: soft enough to behave as a neutral, warm with oak and brass, fresh with white walls. Deeper forest greens read more dramatic — your designer brings physical swatches to judge in your own light.

What is the grooved texture — is it real tongue-and-groove?

Better: the flutes are routed into a single board and sealed under one seamless skin, so you get the panelled cottage look with no joints to open, crack or collect dust.

Can you build the window seat too?

Yes — window seats, open shelving bays and drawer benches are built from the same boards in the same finish, as in the render, so the whole elevation reads as one.

Can the window seat be built to match?

Yes — the one shown is part of the same commission. It is built as a low carcass with drawers under the cushion, fronted in the same sage Olivia door so the flutes line through from the wardrobe to the seat. It turns the wall under a window, which cannot take full-height storage, into somewhere to sit and somewhere to keep bedding.

Why knobs rather than bar handles on a fluted door?

A bar handle crosses the flutes and fights them. A round knob sits on the flat margin at the door edge and leaves the grooves uninterrupted, which is what you are paying for. It also keeps hands off the face, so the sage stays clean.
