About This Style

The Hampton Window Seat with Wardrobes takes the wall a bedroom window sits in and makes it the wardrobe wall: a full-height cashmere wardrobe either side of the window, and a cushioned seat over four drawers spanning the sill between them. Slab doors, slim black bars, and one run from wall to wall and up to the ceiling.

Each tower is a solid-back carcass fixed to the wall and the ceiling; the seat between them is a solid 18mm board over four drawers on full-extension soft-close runners. Cut in Wembley, fitted by the team that built it, covered for ten years.

Bespoke Window Seating

Hampton Window Seat with Wardrobes

The Hampton Window Seat with Wardrobes solves the bedroom wall that has a window in the middle of it. Instead of a wardrobe on another wall and a window with nothing under it, a full-height wardrobe stands either side of the window and a cushioned seat spans the sill between them, over four drawers. The window wall becomes the wardrobe wall, and the window becomes a place to sit.

The finish is cashmere slab doors with slim black bar handles inside and out, so the two wardrobes and the seat read as one piece of joinery, and the seat cushion is made to the seat in a fabric chosen at the design visit.

How it works: each wardrobe is a solid-back carcass fixed to the wall, with hanging, shelving and drawers inside planned around what you own. The seat between them is a solid 18mm board on its own carcass, sized to the sill height, with four drawers beneath it on full-extension soft-close runners, two each side of a centre divider. The seat carcass is set off the external wall with a ventilation gap, so the wall behind it stays dry.

The run finishes at the ceiling with no boxed gap above, and the wardrobes are scribed to the walls and the skirting on installation.

Designed around the bedroom

A window seat in a bedroom is where clothes are laid out, a case is packed and a book is read in the morning light. The Hampton keeps the drawers for folded things under the seat, the hanging in the towers either side, and the window clear.

  • Two full-height cashmere wardrobes either side of the window
  • Cushioned seat over four soft-close drawers between them
  • Hanging, shelving and internal drawers planned to what you own
  • Slab doors with slim black bar handles
  • Solid 18mm seat on its own carcass, ventilated at the back
  • Cushion made to the seat, with a removable cover
  • Built to the ceiling, scribed to the walls and skirting
  • Interiors in Cotta Cremona Oak

Designed for the room: where the window is off-centre the wardrobes are different widths, where the ceiling is high a top box takes the extra, and where you want mirror the tower doors can carry it. The seat can be deepened to a reading depth or kept at the sill.

Built for the bedroom: the drawer fronts under the seat take knees and suitcase corners, so they carry a softened 2mm edge; the towers are fixed to the wall and the ceiling and the seat carcass to the wall behind it, so nothing in the run depends on the floor being level.

The Hampton shown spans a window about 1.2 metres wide with wardrobes of 900mm and 1,200mm either side; the same pieces are drawn to your wall at the design visit.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

Your Hampton is cut in our HA9 Wembley factory to the measurements of your bedroom wall: the beam saw sizes every tower and seat panel, the CNC drills for hinges, shelves and runners, and the edge-bander finishes each visible edge, so the two towers and the seat arrive as one matched run.

Drawer boxes are assembled and hung on their runners before delivery, and the seat board is banded before the cushion is cut to it.

At the design visit we take the window width, sill height, ceiling height, skirting and radiator position; on the day of fitting the run is scribed to the walls and the reveal.

Quality you can rely on: your Metro fitted furniture comes with a 10-year guarantee on our product.

Frequently Asked Questions

Hampton Window Seat with Wardrobes FAQs

What is the Hampton Window Seat with Wardrobes?
A bedroom window wall built as one run: a full-height wardrobe either side of the window and a cushioned seat over four drawers spanning the sill between them. It is built to your wall, your window and your ceiling in our Wembley workshop and fitted by our own team.
Does the seat take space from the wardrobes?
No. The towers are full wardrobe depth and the seat sits between them at sill height, so the wall that had a window in the middle of it gains two wardrobes and a seat with drawers rather than losing anything.
Can the wardrobes be different sizes?
Yes. Most bedroom windows are off-centre, so the towers are drawn to the wall each side of the window rather than made the same. Inside, each is planned around what you hang and fold.
What about the radiator under the window?
Bedroom radiators usually sit under the window, exactly where the seat goes. Your designer will suggest moving it to a side wall, swapping it for a low plinth-height model behind a grille in the seat front, or building the seat around it with a slotted panel. The seat carcass stands off the outside wall either way, with an air gap so the plaster behind it stays dry.
Can I have shaker doors or a different colour?
Yes. The Hampton is shown in cashmere slab with black bars. The same run can be made in any of our painted colours or woodgrains, in slab or shaker doors, with brass, black or knob handles, and mirror panels in the tower doors. Samples are brought to your home so the colour is chosen in your bedroom light.
How long does it take to fit?
Order to installation is three weeks at most. Fitting takes one to two days: the towers go up first and are scribed to the ceiling and skirting, then the seat carcass, the drawers and the doors. You can use the bedroom the same night.
Edge Detail

The Three Window Seat Edge Details

On a window seat the edges are where the cold and the knocks are: the back that faces the external wall, the seat front a shin meets, the drawers at floor level. These are the edges we specify, and your designer confirms them at the visit.
01
1mm ABS Square Edge HAMPTON WINDOW SEAT
The standard edge on a slab door or a bookcase shelf: a 1mm band in the same colour as the face, applied by machine and trimmed square. It is the edge on the doors above knee height and on every shelf, where the cleanest line matters most.

02
2mm ABS Softened Edge
A thicker 2mm band with the corner taken off to a small radius. It goes on the drawer and cupboard fronts under a window seat, the fronts a shin meets when you sit down, and on the front edge of the seat board itself before the cushion is made to it.

03
Ventilated Back Edge
The window-seat detail. The seat carcass is set off the external wall with a gap at the top and bottom edge of its back, so air moves behind the seat and the reveal does not sweat. Where a radiator sits inside the seat, the front carries a grille for the same reason: the heat has to get out.
