About This Style

The St John's Wood Shaker Island Kitchen is a sage green in-frame shaker kitchen with brass bar handles, built around a white marble island with a breakfast bar for three. A range cooker sits under a stainless hood on the back wall, glazed wall units with lit interiors flank it, a tall pantry run stands under a skylight, and the whole room sits on a black and white chevron floor.

The four renders show the island and range cooker, the breakfast bar with its brass stools and the doors to the garden, the marble island top from above, and the pantry run under the skylight. Cabinets are made to the room in Wembley, installed by the team that built them, with ten years of cover on every part.

St John's Wood Shaker Island Kitchen

The St John's Wood Shaker Island Kitchen is planned for a large family kitchen with a garden door at one end and a skylight over the pantry. A back run of sage green in-frame shaker units carries a range cooker under a stainless hood, with glazed wall units lit from inside either side of it; a white marble island stands in the middle with a breakfast bar for three brass stools; and a tall pantry run with the fridge-freezer stands under the skylight.

The finish is a matt sage green paint on an in-frame shaker door, so every front is outlined by its own frame and again by the painted face frame of the cabinet, with solid brass bar handles on every door and drawer. The black and white chevron floor and the marble island give the green something to sit against.

How it works: each door is a five-piece shaker frame with a flat centre panel, hung inside a painted face frame on concealed soft-close hinges. Drawers run on full-extension soft-close runners behind matching in-frame fronts. The island is a run of drawers and cupboards on the kitchen side with the breakfast overhang on concealed steel brackets, and the range cooker sits in a break in the run with the hood housing above.

Designed around how you cook and gather

A range cooker wants to be the centre of the back wall, and an island in front of it gives the cook a surface to turn round to and a bar for the family to sit at. The pantry run keeps the fridge and the dry goods together at the end of the room.

  • Back run with a range cooker under a stainless hood
  • Glazed wall units with lit interiors either side of the hood
  • Island with drawers and a marble breakfast overhang for three
  • Tall pantry run with the integrated fridge-freezer under the skylight
  • In-frame shaker doors with solid brass bar handles
  • White marble-effect worktops and island top, templated in place
  • Full-extension soft-close drawers, concealed soft-close hinges
  • Sage green painted fronts, Cotta Cremona Oak interiors

Designed for the room: the back run shown is about 4.4 metres with a 2.4 metre island and a 2.0 metre pantry run. The same pieces are drawn to your room at the design visit.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

Every panel of the St John's Wood is cut in our HA9 Wembley factory to the survey of your room: the beam saw sizes every carcass panel, the CNC drills the hinge and runner positions, and the edge-bander finishes every visible edge, so the run arrives as one matched set.

The face frames and doors are painted together in the workshop so the colour matches across every front, and the island is built as one unit before the marble is templated.

At the design visit we record the room, the light, the services and the appliance models; on installation the units are scribed to the walls and the floor.

Quality you can rely on: your Metro fitted kitchen comes with a 10-year guarantee covering parts and labour.

“Fantastic customer service as well as great fitted wardrobes by Kinjel and team. I would recommend this company to my friends. Thank you. Swathi”

Swathi BaruaGoogle review

“I was very pleased with my wardrobe fitted by Metro. By having a custom design I could have exactly the spacing and layout I wanted. They came out to me so we could match the colour to my existing inbuilt wardrobe. Any changes I wanted in the design Mike was quick to do and send me updated previews. It also came in considerably cheaper than a well known wardrobes brand. A couple of snagging issues as you'd expect, and other than some mild chasing I had to do they put it right and all was good. I'd happily recommend them.”

Frequently Asked Questions

St John's Wood Shaker Island Kitchen FAQs

What is the St John's Wood Shaker Island Kitchen?
A sage green in-frame shaker kitchen with brass bar handles: a back run with a range cooker under a stainless hood and glazed wall units, a white marble island with a breakfast bar for three, and a tall pantry run. Made in Wembley to your room and fitted by Metro's own team.
What does in-frame mean?
Each door and drawer sits inside a painted face frame on the front of the cabinet, rather than covering it, so you see the frame around every door. It is the traditional way to build a painted kitchen and gives the run a second outline around every front.
How is it different from the Hampstead?
The Hampstead is a lay-on shaker with cup handles and a peninsula; the St John's Wood is in-frame with brass bar handles, a freestanding marble island and glazed wall units. Both are painted sage green and both are made in Wembley.
How much room does the island need?
At least 1,000mm of clear floor on every side you walk around, and 1,200mm in front of the range cooker so the oven door opens into the gap. In practice that is a room about 4.2m wide.
Is the worktop real marble?
The render shows a white marble-effect quartz composite, which gives the veining without the staining that natural marble suffers around a hob and sink. Real marble is available; the worktop is templated after the cabinets are fitted and quoted separately.
Can I have a different colour?
Yes. The St John's Wood is shown in sage green. The same kitchen can be painted in any of our colours, and the island can be a different colour from the run. Your designer brings the samples to the house so the colour is judged in your own daylight.
Edge Detail

The Three Kitchen Edge Details

In a kitchen the edges are where the water and the knocks are: the worktop joint at the sink, the drawer fronts at hip height, the wall units at eye level. These are the edges we specify, and your designer confirms them at the visit.
01
2mm ABS Softened Edge ST JOHN'S WOOD KITCHEN
A thicker 2mm band with the corner taken off to a small radius. It goes on the base unit doors and the pan drawer fronts, the fronts a hip meets and a pan handle catches, where a square edge chips and a softened one takes it.

02
Sealed Worktop Joint
The kitchen edge. Where the worktop meets the wall, the sink and the hob cut-out, the joint is sealed so water runs across the top and off it rather than into the board beneath. The upstand covers the wall joint; the sink and hob cut-outs are sealed on the day the stone is fitted.
