Wandsworth Laundry and Boot Room

The Wandsworth is the room off the garden door that does two jobs. The laundry takes the long wall: machines under a worktop, a sink, a lit splashback and tall cupboards for the linen and the board. The boot bay takes the short one: an open oak alcove with a row of hooks, a shelf of baskets above and a bench over drawers, so the coats and the shoes are dropped by the door and never reach the kitchen.

The laundry is finished in an olive green shaker with brass bar handles, and the splashback behind the worktop is tongue-and-groove boarding with a lit shelf, which is where the detergents and the plants live. The boot bay is lined in oak so it reads as a different piece, and its bench is the height to sit on while boots come off.

How it works: the laundry run is a set of solid-back carcasses with the appliance bay ventilated at the back, the sink unit carrying the services and the worktop spanning the machines on a rail. The splashback is a boarded panel fixed to a batten with an LED channel under the shelf above it. The boot bay is a separate oak-lined carcass with a solid bench on drawer boxes, hooks fixed through the back panel into the battens, and open cubbies above for a basket per person.

A tall cupboard stands between the laundry and the boot bay, so the two halves are read as one wall with one break in it.

Designed for the door to the garden

A laundry room by the back door is a boot room whether it is planned as one or not. The Wandsworth plans it: the wet, muddy things have their own bay in a finish that takes knocks, the washing has its own run in a finish that wipes clean, and the route from the garden to the machine passes the bench, the hooks and the sink in that order.

  • Washer and dryer under a continuous worktop in a ventilated bay
  • Sink with a brass tap, services inside the sink unit
  • Tongue-and-groove splashback with a lit shelf
  • Tall cupboards at both ends for linen, the board and the hoover
  • Open oak boot bay: hooks, a basket cubby per person, a bench over drawers
  • Olive green factory paint with brass bar handles
  • Oak lining to the boot bay
  • Built to the ceiling and scribed to the walls

Designed for the room: the boot bay can close with doors, take a raised dog shower in place of the bench, or grow to two bays for a large family; the laundry run can stack the machines where the wall is short, and both halves are made in any of our painted colours with the bay in oak, walnut or paint.

Built for everyday use: the bench is a solid board that takes a sitting adult, the oak lining is lacquered so wet coats do not mark it, the drawers under the bench are on full-extension runners for boots, and the laundry paint is a factory lacquer.

The Wandsworth shown fills a wall about 4.2 metres wide and 2.4 metres high; the same wall is drawn to your room, your machines and your door at the design visit.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

The Wandsworth is cut, built and painted in our HA9 Wembley factory from the survey of your room. The shaker doors are sprayed as one batch, the boot bay is lined and its bench and drawers built in the workshop, and the appliance bay is made to the machine drawings.

The wall, the ceiling, the door swing, the water and waste positions, the power and the machine models are recorded at your design visit, and the drawings show your plumber and electrician what to do before we fit.

Quality you can rely on: your Metro fitted furniture comes with a 10-year guarantee on our product.

Frequently Asked Questions

Wandsworth Laundry and Boot Room FAQs

What is the Wandsworth Laundry and Boot Room?
One wall that does the laundry and the back door: an olive shaker run with the machines under a worktop and sink, a lit panelled splashback and tall cupboards, and beside it an open oak boot bay with hooks, baskets and a bench over boot drawers. It is made to your room in our Wembley workshop and fitted by our own team.
Can the boot bay have doors?
Yes. Open is quicker with a coat in one hand and a child in the other, and it is what most families choose by the garden door. Where the room is seen from the kitchen, or the coats should be hidden, the bay takes two doors in the same shaker as the laundry.
Can I add a dog shower?
Yes, in place of the bench or beside it: a raised tray at about 400mm, a handheld mixer tap, a tiled or tanked surround and a drying cupboard alongside. It needs a hot and cold supply and a waste, which are drawn in for your plumber before the joinery is made.
Why the two finishes?
So the two jobs read as two pieces. The oak lining in the boot bay takes knocks from boots and bags and hides the scuffs; the painted shaker on the laundry wipes clean. One colour across both is possible, but the change of material is what makes the wall look designed rather than filled.
What goes in the tall cupboards?
The things a laundry needs and a room should not show: the ironing board and the iron in one, the hoover and the mop in the other, with the linen on shelves above. Where there is only room for one tall cupboard, the ironing board moves to a pull-out drawer under the worktop.
How long does it take to fit?
Fitted within 21 days of your order being confirmed, usually in two to three days on site after the plumber's first fix. Our fitters build the laundry run first, then the boot bay, scribe both to the walls and the ceiling, and set the machines, the bench and the lighting.
