Two 300 Sliding Wardrobe Doors, Made to Measure in London

Two 300mm bands on each door, one above and one below the centre, dividing the face into three unequal sections. The asymmetric, contemporary layout: a rhythm of thin and wide panels rather than a single line.

Two 300 · The door

The Two 300 door, drawn

Four 30mm cross rails hold two fixed 300mm bands, and the three remaining panels take what is left in a proportion of roughly one to two to one: on a 2400mm opening, 386mm at the top, 772mm between the bands and 386mm at the bottom. The bands sit at about 470mm to 770mm and 1570mm to 1870mm above the floor, so the wide centre panel runs from knee to eye level and the two bands frame it. Woodgrain bands with frosted glass or mirror between them is the classic pairing, as on the York; the same arrangement in two tones of paint is quieter.

Two 300 · What to get right

Getting a Two 300 door right

Six things a designer checks before a two-band door is drawn.

01

Where the bands sit

Above and below the middle, leaving a taller panel between them and shorter panels at the top and bottom. The one-to-two-to-one proportion can be shifted at the drawing to suit the room.

02

Five panels, four rails

This is the most detailed of the twelve layouts. In black rails it is a strong grid; in silver, champagne or cashmere the panels do the talking.

03

Bands and fields

The two bands are normally one material and the three fields another: woodgrain bands with glass fields, or dark paint with light. Three materials is possible but rarely better.

04

The centre panel

At 772mm it sits from knee to eye height. Frosted glass here gives a light middle; mirror gives a reflection between two timber bands.

05

Ceiling height

Two 300 keeps the fields usable from 2200mm up. On a 2600mm opening the centre field is 872mm and the outer fields 436mm.

06

Two 300 or Two 400

Three hundred bands are finer and suit two-door wardrobes and painted doors. Four hundred bands carry better across a wide run and against strong woodgrain.

Two 300 · Across the run

Three Two 300 doors on one opening

Across a 3000mm opening all four rails run unbroken at the same heights on the three 1030mm doors, so the run reads as five long bands: two thin bands of woodgrain and three fields of glass or mirror between and beyond them. The middle door sits on the back track, 88mm behind the outer two, and each meeting overlaps by 45mm. Because there are fifteen panels across the run, the material choice matters more here than on any other layout: frosted glass keeps the grid readable where a clear mirror would dissolve it into a picture of the room.

Two 300 · Planning

Planning a Two 300 wardrobe

Five decisions, in the order your designer makes them.

01
Choose the fields
The three larger panels are most of the door. Frosted glass for light, mirror for depth, paint or woodgrain for a solid face.
02
Choose the bands
Woodgrain or paint in contrast to the fields. The two bands are the pattern.
03
Set the proportion
One to two to one is the start. The designer shifts the bands to align with a sill, a headboard or a picture rail.
04
Pick the frame
Four rails per door. Black for a grid, silver or champagne to let the bands lead.
05
Set the interior
Five panels on the door do not mean five shelves inside. Hanging, drawers and shelving are set to what you own.
York sliding wardrobe: walnut and frosted glass banded sliding doors with black rails
Two 300 · Built

Two bands, built

The York is the two-band layout built: walnut woodgrain bands at the top and bottom of each door, frosted glass between them, black rails machined to one drawing so the horizontals read as continuous lines rather than two doors pushed together. It is 3000mm wide, 2400mm high, 600mm deep and from £4,995 fitted.

Two 300 sets the bands a little in from the ends of the door so a short panel sits above and below each one, which gives the five-panel rhythm drawn above. The same frame, the same rails, a different proportion.

Two 300 · FAQ

Questions about the Two 300 layout.

A sliding door with two fixed 300mm bands, one above and one below the centre, held by four 30mm cross rails. The three remaining panels take the rest of the height in a proportion of about one to two to one: on a 2400mm opening, roughly 386mm, 772mm and 386mm. The bands are usually woodgrain or paint and the fields glass or mirror.

Equal 3 divides the door into three panels of the same height with two rails. Two 300 has five panels and four rails: two thin fixed bands and three fields of different heights. Equal 3 is a calm, even rhythm; Two 300 is a contemporary, asymmetric one.

Frosted glass returns light without returning a reflection, so the bands stay readable as a pattern. A clear mirror between two bands dissolves the grid into a picture of the room. Mirror works in the centre field alone, with frosted glass or paint in the two outer fields, if you want both.

Yes. One to two to one is the starting point. The designer can raise or lower either band to line through a windowsill, a headboard or a picture rail, and the rails are then machined to that drawing on every door so the lines still run across the whole wardrobe.

Three hundred bands are the finer, quieter version and suit two-door wardrobes, smaller rooms and painted doors. Four hundred bands read from further away and hold their own on a wide run or against a strong woodgrain. See Two 400; your designer will draw both against the room.

Two-band doors carry four rails and five panels and are the most detailed of the twelve layouts, so they sit at the upper end of banded door pricing. The York, a two-door banded wardrobe of 3000mm by 2400mm, is from £4,995 fitted with a 10-year guarantee.
