Bamburgh Over-Bed Wardrobe London

The Bamburgh Over-Bed Wardrobe treats the bed wall as one piece of joinery. Two full-height slab wardrobes stand either side of the bed, a row of five bridging cabinets runs across above the headboard, and the space between them — where most over-bed designs leave bare plaster — is filled with a slatted timber panel lit from the cabinets above.

The arrangement shown is in Cashmere Grey with slim black bar handles and a Cotta Cremona Oak interior. A narrow ledge runs along the base of the slatted panel at bedside height, taking a lamp and a book without a bedside table on the floor.

How it works: the two towers carry the run. The bridging cabinets are fixed to the wall and sit on the towers at each end, so the row above the bed is part of the same structure rather than a set of cupboards hung on their own. The slatted panel is fitted between the towers behind the bed, with an LED strip concealed under the front edge of the bridging cabinets washing down over it.

Doors are 18mm MFC slabs on concealed soft-close hinges; the slatted panel is a fixed feature, not a door.

A plain slab suits this arrangement because the wall already has a texture — the slats — and one texture is enough. The bars are kept slim and black so the run reads as a single pale surface with a warm panel set into it.

The towers take the daily storage at arm’s reach; the bridge takes what you need a few times a year; the panel and ledge take the bedside things that usually need their own furniture.

Making better use of the wall: a bed wall is usually a headboard and two bedside tables. The Bamburgh replaces the tables with a ledge, the empty wall above with cabinets, and the plaster behind the bed with a lit panel, so the whole wall works and the floor either side of the bed stays clear.

Built for everyday use: 18mm MFC throughout, with a solid 18mm back, top and bottom to every carcass. The bridging cabinets have their own backs — they are fixed through them into the wall, not hung on the plaster.

The finish shown is Cashmere Grey outside with Cotta Cremona Oak inside; the slatted panel can be specified in a matching or contrasting timber tone, and other door finishes are available.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

A run with a fixed panel between two towers needs the towers to be exactly where the drawing says, or the panel does not fit. Every carcass on the Bamburgh is cut on our beam saw and drilled on the CNC in our HA9 Wembley factory from one survey, so the towers, the bridge and the panel arrive as parts of one drawing.

The slats are cut and spaced in the factory as a single panel and edge-banded on the visible ends, then fitted between the towers on site with the LED strip already routed into the bridging cabinets above.

The wall, the bed position and the ceiling height are all measured at your design visit, before anything is made.
