About This Style

The Brook Black Oak Slatted Wall Panel gives a living room one dark wall with texture. Black oak slats run floor to ceiling and corner to corner behind the sofa, on a black felt backer, so the wall reads as a single plane that a pale sofa and a painting sit against.

Made as battened panels with slats 24mm wide and 18mm deep at 12mm gaps on an 18mm backer, fixed to the wall on battens with a shadow gap at the ceiling and the corners, the panel is drawn to your wall, your sockets and your switches.

Every wall panel is made in our Wembley, North London workshop and fitted by our own team. Backed by a 10-Year Parts and Labour Guarantee.

Bespoke Slatted Wall Panels

Brook Black Oak Slatted Wall Panel

The Brook is the feature wall for a living room that has everything else pale: black oak slats from floor to ceiling and corner to corner behind the sofa, so the seating and the art have a dark, textured plane to sit against.

Slats are 24mm wide and 18mm deep at 12mm gaps on a black felt backer, so the shadow between them reads as a line rather than a gap and the wall stays one tone.

How it works: the wall is battened at 400mm centres to give a true plane, and the slats are fixed to an 18mm backer board in the workshop in panels up to 1.2 metres wide, so the spacing is identical across the wall and the joins fall behind a slat. The slats stop 10mm short of the ceiling and the corners with a shadow gap, so the panel is never scribed to a wall that is not straight.

Designed for the wall behind the sofa

The sofa wall is the one the room looks at from the door, and the one that carries the painting and the lamp. The Brook makes it the darkest surface in the room, which is what makes a pale sofa read as furniture rather than a shape against a white wall.

  • Black oak slats floor to ceiling, corner to corner
  • Slats 24mm wide, 18mm deep, 12mm gaps on black felt
  • Battened at 400mm centres; the plaster is untouched
  • Panels made in the workshop, joins hidden behind a slat
  • Shadow gap at the ceiling and the corners
  • Optional LED wash from a concealed channel at the top
  • Sockets and switches set into the gaps

Designed for the room: the slats can be oak, walnut or a painted colour, the panel can stop at a door or a window with a finished return, and a TV plate or a floating shelf can be built into any panel.

Built for everyday use: the slats are veneered on a stable core so they do not cup, the felt behind is fire-rated, and the panels are fixed through the backer into the battens, so a shelf, a screen plate or a picture rail can be fixed anywhere along the wall.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

The Brook is made as numbered panels in our HA9 Wembley factory: the slats are cut and spaced on the CNC, glued and pinned to the backer, and the panels are labelled to a drawing of your wall, so the fitters hang them in order and the joins disappear.

The wall, the ceiling, the corners, the sockets and the switches are measured at your design visit, and the panels are drawn around them so a socket sits in a gap, not behind a slat.

Quality you can rely on: your Metro fitted furniture comes with a 10-year guarantee covering parts and labour.

Frequently Asked Questions

Brook Black Oak Slatted Wall Panel FAQs

What is the Brook Black Oak Slatted Wall Panel?
A full-height wall of black oak slats behind the sofa, corner to corner, on a black felt backer. It is made as battened, numbered panels in our Wembley workshop and fitted by our own team.
Will a black wall make the room dark?
One dark wall in a bright room reads as depth rather than gloom, and the slats give it texture the light moves across. The Brook is shown with a bay window on the adjacent wall; in a room with less daylight an LED wash from the top rail lifts it.
Can the television go on it?
Yes. A recessed plate with a cable void is built into one panel, as on our Putney TV wall, so a screen up to 85 inches fixes through the backer into the battens with nothing showing.
Can the slats be a different timber or a colour?
Yes. Oak, black oak, walnut, ash and painted slats are all made the same way, and the felt behind is chosen to match or to contrast. Samples of the slat and the felt are brought to your home so the tone is chosen in your light.
What about sockets and switches?
They are measured at the design visit and the panels are drawn around them, so a socket sits in a gap between slats with a matching surround, or is moved into the skirting run by your electrician before we fit.
How long does it take to fit?
Fitted within 21 days of your order being confirmed, usually in a day on site. Our fitters set the battens to a true plane, hang the numbered panels, and fit any shelf, plate or lighting.
