The Frankfurt is a seamless slab with a tailored piece of hardware you can feel but barely see: a slim 145mm letterbox pull machined into the door and lined with a brushed-metal insert, sitting perfectly flush with the face. Behind it, five layers press around an 18mm E1-grade MDF core wrapped in one skin, finished with a clean square edge softened by a 3mm radius.

About This Style

A built-in wardrobe does what no freestanding wardrobe can: it turns an entire wall — alcoves, chimney breasts, awkward corners and all — into one seamless bank of storage that looks like it was always part of the room. This build does it on the Frankfurt door, whose slim metal-lined letterbox pull sits perfectly flush with the face, so the wall stays calm and nothing catches as you pass.

How it works: each door is an 18mm E1-grade MDF core (PEFC/FSC® accredited) wrapped in one thermoformed skin, with a 145mm recessed pull machined into the board and lined in brushed metal. Doors hang on soft-close hinges and finish in a clean square edge with a 3mm radius. Because every carcass is built to your wall — not bought in stock sizes — the fit is wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling with no filler gaps.

Make it yours: the deep ink blue shown is one of 90+ finishes — matt, superior matt, gloss and woodgrain — with ten interior colours. Straight runs, alcove builds, walk-ins and corners, all cut in our Wembley workshop.

The Built-In Wardrobe is storage that becomes part of the house. The run shown is fitted floor to ceiling and wall to wall around the bed, scribed to the ceiling and the returns, so there is no gap above it, no gap beside it and nothing to suggest it was not there when the room was plastered.

The door is the Frankfurt, a slab with a recessed letterbox pull: a short horizontal slot cut into the face at mid-height, lined in metal, that takes four fingers. Nothing projects, so the wall reads as a wall until you reach for it.

How it works: an 18mm E1-grade MDF slab with the letterbox aperture machined through the face and a Profile Edge 1, wrapped in 5G vinyl and fitted with the recessed pull. The navy super-matt shown absorbs light, which is what lets the run sit back and let the bed take the room.

The pulls sit at one height across every door, so they read as a line of small openings rather than as handles.

Designed around how you use your room

Built-in means the alcoves, the chimney breast and the ceiling height are the wardrobe’s shape, not obstacles to it. The arrangement shown wraps the bed wall with lit returns and a desk under the window.

Built for everyday use: a letterbox pull takes the wear a vinyl edge would otherwise take, cannot catch clothing, and sits at the height a hand reaches without bending. Soft-close hinges throughout.

Built-in only works if the carcasses are cut to the room, so the survey records every alcove depth, chimney-breast return and ceiling height, and the boards are cut to those figures in our HA9 Wembley factory. Scribe fillets take up the last few millimetres against plaster that is never quite flat.

The letterbox aperture is machined through the face on the CNC, the carcasses are cut to the alcove and chimney-breast figures from survey, and scribe fillets close the last millimetres against the plaster.

What is the difference between built-in and freestanding wardrobes?

A built-in wardrobe is constructed to your wall rather than bought as a box: it runs wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling, absorbs alcoves and chimney breasts, and is fixed in place. You gain far more usable storage from the same footprint, and it stays with the house rather than moving out with you.

What is the recessed handle on this door?

A letterbox pull: a short horizontal slot machined through the face of the door at mid-height and lined in metal. You open the door by putting four fingers into the slot and pulling. Nothing stands proud of the face, so the run reads as a flat wall, and the metal liner takes the wear rather than the vinyl around it.

Can you build around alcoves and chimney breasts?

That is what built-in means. The survey records each alcove depth and every return of the chimney breast, and the carcasses are cut to those figures rather than to a standard width, so the wardrobe fills the alcove and returns around the breast as one piece. The doors are then hung flush across the whole run, so the breast disappears behind them.

Why navy for a built-in wardrobe?

Because a built-in run is meant to recede, and a deep colour in super-matt does that better than white. White draws the eye to the join with the ceiling and walls; navy absorbs the light, so the scribed edges disappear and the wall reads as a wall. The lit returns give the bed its light instead.

Can the returns be lit?

Yes — the end panels either side of the bed in the arrangement shown each carry a recessed vertical LED strip on a dimmer. On a built-in run that goes to the ceiling it is the practical place for bedside light, because the wardrobe returns are where a lamp would otherwise have to sit.
