The Highbury is the media wall for a room that wants a fire as well as a screen. The slats cover the whole wall so there is one surface, the television sits in a shallow recess so it is flush with the slat faces, and beneath it a linear electric fire sits in a low unit in warm grey with a shelf above for the soundbar. Wall lights either side are set into the slats rather than surface-mounted, so the wall is lit three ways: from the top, from the sides and from the fire.

The slats are oak on a black felt backer, 24mm wide at 12mm gaps. The fire unit is a painted carcass with a cupboard each side of the fire for the media boxes, ventilated at the back, and the recess for the screen is a box built into the panel with the cables and the power inside it.

How it works: the wall is battened to a true plane and the slatted panels are hung on it, with the screen recess, the wall light boxes and the LED channel built into the panels in the workshop. The screen recess is 80mm deep, so the television sits with its face level with the slats on a slim bracket, and the cables drop inside the recess to the fire unit. The electric fire is a slot-in linear model with its own supply, and the cupboards either side of it are ventilated for the amplifier and the boxes.

The wall lights are wired in the void behind the panels to a switch by the door, on their own dimmer from the LED wash.

Designed as the focus of the room

A living room needs one wall to face. The Highbury puts the fire, the screen and the light on the same wall and the same surface, so the sofa faces one thing rather than three. The slats give the wall its texture; the recess keeps the screen from sitting proud of it; the fire gives it warmth when the screen is off.

Designed for the room: the fire can be a gas or a bio-ethanol model with the clearances changed to suit, the grey unit can be longer with drawers, and the slats can be walnut, ash or painted, with the felt to match.

Built for everyday use: the fire unit is built to the appliance maker's clearances with a non-combustible lining around the fire, the media cupboards have vented backs so the boxes stay cool with the doors shut, and the screen recess is sized for the next screen as well as this one.

The Highbury shown covers a wall about 4.5 metres wide and 2.5 metres high; the same wall is drawn to your room, your fire and your screen at the design visit.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

The Highbury is made in our HA9 Wembley factory as slatted panels and a fire unit cut to your wall. The recess, the light boxes and the LED channel are built into the panels before the slats are fixed on the jig, the fire unit is lined and ventilated to the appliance drawings, and every panel is numbered for the wall.

The wall, the ceiling height, the fire model, the screen size and the socket and switch positions are recorded at your design visit, and the electrician's first fix is set out from our drawings before the panels are hung.
