Barbican Bespoke Media Unit

The Barbican Bespoke Media Unit frames the television. A floating base and a matching top in matt black run the width of the wall, joined at the ends by slim black cabinets, and inside the frame the screen sits on a backdrop of oak slats lit from above and below. Every door is push-to-open, so there is nothing on the black but the black.

It is the media wall for a contemporary room — flat, dark, handleless — and the lit oak behind the screen is what keeps it warm.

How it works: the Barbican is built from 18mm E1-grade MFC as a frame: a base unit hung on a concealed wall rail, a top unit fixed above, and two side cabinets closing the ends, with the slatted oak panel fitted to the wall inside them. The television mounts on the panel; LED strips in the top and the base wash the slats.

Doors and drawer fronts open on push-to-open catches with concealed soft-close hinges, so the run has no hardware at all.

A framed wall is planned from the frame inwards: the outer edges are set by the room, the inner ones by the screen.

Built around your television: the opening inside the frame is set from the screen with margin either side, so the television reads as a picture in a frame rather than a box on a shelf. A larger screen later fits the same opening.

Keeping the living room organised: everything is behind a black door — equipment in the base, the rarely used above the screen, the tall things in the side cabinets — so the only objects on show are the ones you put on the base top. It is the tidiest media wall in the range.

Built for everyday use: 18mm MFC with a solid 18mm back, top and bottom to each unit, the base hung on a concealed rail and the top fixed through its back. Matt black is a textured board that hides fingerprints where a gloss would show them.

The Barbican shown measures 4070mm wide x 2400mm high x 300mm deep. Those are this room’s figures; yours is planned to your wall and your screen.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

A frame has four members that have to meet at right angles, and on a matt black finish a step at a corner shows. The Barbican’s base, top and side cabinets are cut on the beam saw in our HA9 Wembley factory from one survey and drilled on the CNC so the corners close square.

The push-to-open catches and hinge positions are machined before delivery, the LED channels are routed into the top and base, and every visible edge is banded in matt black on industrial equipment so no light line breaks the frame.

The wall, the screen and the seating are measured at your design visit, before anything is made.
