The Fenwick is the most imposing door in the 5-Piece collection: 105mm stiles — nearly twice the Harlem’s — on a 22mm board, built as five real pieces dowelled and glued like traditional joinery. Wrapped in embossed-grain textured vinyl, its broad frames and grand proportions suit high ceilings and period rooms; the outer edge carries a 2mm chamfer with 2mm ABS end caps.

About This Style

Oak has furnished English bedrooms for five centuries, and it is not stopping now. This is the Fenwick in a pale limed oak-effect: the widest, weightiest door in our 5-Piece collection — 105mm stiles on a 22mm board — with the grain running true through every panel and the presence to match a period room.

How it works: five real pieces — two 105mm French-cut stiles, two rails, a floating centre panel — joined with 8mm beech dowels and PVA, wrapped in embossed-grain textured vinyl whose texture you can feel. The oak look arrives without oak’s seasonal movement: no gaps opening in winter, no swelling doors in humid summers, no re-oiling. 2mm chamfered edges with 2mm ABS end caps finish each door.

Make it yours: oak-effect and textured woodgrain colours made to measure, ten interior colours, and layouts from a clean single panel to a stately five-panel — plus inset mirrors. Floor-to-ceiling runs with top boxes, alcoves, walk-ins and corners, all cut in our Wembley workshop.

The Oak Fitted Wardrobe is built on the Fenwick, which has the widest stiles of any five-piece door we make. At 105mm they are nearly twice the width of the Harlem’s, and that single measurement changes everything about how the door reads: the frame becomes the door, the panel becomes a recess, and the whole run takes on the weight of old joinery.

It is an oak effect rather than oak, and that is the point. The embossed-grain vinyl carries a printed oak figure with a raised emboss that follows it, so it looks and feels like timber but does not move, split or need refinishing. The wardrobe is shown in a limed oak and in a darker grey oak; the range runs across oak effects and textured colours.

How it works: each Fenwick door is five separate pieces — two 105mm stiles, two rails and a floating centre panel — in 22mm E1-grade MDF, jointed with 8mm beech dowels and PVA adhesive before wrapping. The 2mm ABS end caps are chamfered, a heavier edge than the slimmer doors carry because the wider frame can take it.

The doors take round brass knobs rather than bar handles. On a frame this wide a bar looks stranded; a knob sits in the stile where a knob has always sat on a panelled door, and it is the detail that makes the Fenwick read as furniture rather than fitted cabinetry.

A mirror can take the place of the centre panel on any door in the run. Because the stiles are so wide, a mirrored Fenwick still reads as a framed door first and a mirror second.

Designed around how you use your room

The Fenwick suits a room with the height and the wall to carry it, and it is usually drawn with a row of top boxes so the wide frames stack into a full elevation.

Built for everyday use: the wide stiles are not decorative. They give each door a stiffer frame, so a tall Fenwick door stays flat over its full height and closes true on its soft-close hinges year after year.

The two rooms shown use the same door in two oak tones — a pale limed oak that lifts a small bedroom, and a darker grey oak that suits a larger one with more daylight. The interior finish is chosen at the design visit.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

A 105mm stile leaves no room for error at the joint. The dowel holes on both stile and rail are drilled on our six-sided drilling machine so the frame pulls up square, and the door is pressed flat before the vinyl goes on. It is made in our HA9 Wembley factory, not bought in.

Boards are optimised on the beam saw to reduce waste, components and hinge positions are machined by CNC, and every carcass edge is finished on industrial edge-banding equipment. The doors are then hung on site to the sizes taken at your survey.

Is this real oak?

It is a five-piece door with real joinery construction, wrapped in embossed oak-grain textured vinyl over an MDF core. You get oak’s look and texture without solid oak’s seasonal movement, cracking or price — and the construction genuinely is five dowelled pieces, like the traditional article.

Light or dark oak — which suits a bedroom?

Limed and pale oaks (as shown) keep rooms bright and read Scandinavian-classic; deeper honey and smoked oaks feel warmer and more traditional — see our Bastille for the smoked look. Physical samples come to the design visit.

Why are the Fenwick’s frames so wide?

Proportion. Its 105mm stiles and 22mm thickness are drawn for high-ceilinged period rooms, where slimmer frames look lost. In a Victorian bedroom the Fenwick reads as original furniture.

Why knobs rather than bar handles?

Because of the 105mm stile. A bar handle on a frame that wide sits in the middle of a broad flat band and looks stranded; a round knob sits where a knob has sat on panelled doors for two centuries, at the stile’s edge. It is the detail that tips the Fenwick from cabinetry into furniture. Bars are available if you would rather have them.

Can I have just one mirrored door in the run?

Yes — the second room shown does exactly that. The mirror replaces the centre panel on a single door and the 105mm frame stays around it, so the run still reads as a wall of framed oak with one reflection in it rather than a mirror with wood either side. Most people put it on the door nearest where they dress.
