Inside the Bastille door

The Bastille is the real thing: five separate pieces — two 84mm French-cut stiles, two rails and a floating 6mm centre panel — joined with 8mm beech dowels and PVA glue, exactly as traditional joinery is made. Every piece is cut from 22mm E1-grade MDF and wrapped in 0.2mm embossed-grain Legno vinyl, with matching heat-transfer film on the rail edges, 2mm ABS end caps and chamfered edges. A fine bead runs along each shoulder — the detail that gives the door its name. The centre panel’s grain always runs vertical.

About This Style

Some rooms call for wardrobes that feel like furniture — with the weight, the grain and the shadow lines of real joinery. The Bastille delivers exactly that: a true five-piece beaded shaker door, its pieces dowelled and glued the way cabinetmakers have always worked, shown here in a smoked wood-effect finish with slim brass knobs.

How it works: two 84mm French-cut stiles, two rails and a floating centre panel are joined with 8mm beech dowels and PVA adhesive — five real pieces, 22mm thick. Each is wrapped in embossed-grain Legno vinyl with matching heat-transfer edges and 2mm ABS end caps, so the joinery look never needs sanding or repainting. Choose your panel layout above: single, two, three, four or five panels, or a top open frame.

Make it yours: nine textured Legno colours held in stock — from Linen and Taupe to Graphite, Indigo and Evergreen — with more made to measure, and ten Kronospan interior colours. Floor-to-ceiling runs, alcoves, walk-ins and corners, all cut in our Wembley workshop.

Is the Bastille a real five-piece door?
Yes — genuinely five pieces: two stiles, two rails and a floating centre panel, dowelled with 8mm beech dowels and glued, exactly as traditional joinery. The difference from painted joinery is the finish: each piece is wrapped in embossed-grain vinyl, so there are no paint lines to crack at the joints.
Does wood effect look convincing?
The Legno wrap carries an embossed grain you can feel as well as see, and because the door is built from five real pieces, the shadow lines and proportions are those of real joinery — which is most of what the eye reads as “wood”.
