About This Style

At the very top of our range sits the simplest idea we offer: a wardrobe made of oak. Not oak-effect, not veneer — solid kiln-dried oak, tenon-jointed the way furniture has been built for centuries, hand-sanded and finished in front of you. Shown here on the Brooklyn Oak, whose slim 25mm frames let the grain do all the talking.

How it works: the Brooklyn Oak is 21mm solid oak with a 17mm oak centre panel; the Monroe Oak carries broader 75mm stiles in 20mm oak. Both use profiled tenon joints — the traditional cabinetmaker’s joint — with a fine 1.2mm chamfer cut in the solid. Doors arrive hand-sanded and are finished to your choice: natural oil, matt lacquer, or a tinted oil to warm or lime the grain. Soft-close Blum hinges throughout.

Make it yours: two door designs (tap above to compare), finished to order, with ten Kronospan interior colours behind the oak. Floor-to-ceiling runs, alcoves, walk-ins and corners — every carcass cut to your room in our Wembley workshop.

Every solid oak wardrobe is designed at a free home visit, made to measure in North London, and installed by our own fitters with a 10-year guarantee.

Solid Oak Fitted Wardrobes London

Why oak is bought once

Most furniture depreciates; solid oak accumulates. The grain deepens with daylight, the edges soften with hands, and small marks sand away with an afternoon’s care — which is why tenon-jointed oak pieces pass between generations rather than to the tip. A fitted solid oak wardrobe brings that permanence to the largest piece of furniture you own, built into the room it will serve for decades.

Each commission is measured and made in our Wembley workshop — Brooklyn Oak’s slim frames or Monroe Oak’s classic proportions, finished in oils or lacquer to your choice — and installed by our own fitters with a 10-year guarantee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Solid oak wardrobes: your questions answered

Is this different from your Oak Fitted Wardrobe page?
Yes — deliberately. Our Fenwick oak wardrobe wears an embossed oak-grain wrap over a five-piece MDF door (superb value, zero upkeep). This page is solid kiln-dried oak throughout, tenon-jointed — the material itself, at a materials price. Both are honest; they are different answers to different budgets.
Will solid oak move or crack?
All boards are kiln-dried before joinery and the tenon construction lets the timber breathe as one frame — the same engineering that keeps century-old oak furniture true. We do advise keeping wardrobes away from direct radiator blast, as with any solid timber.
How is it finished?
Doors arrive hand-sanded and are finished to your choice: natural oil (matt, tactile), matt lacquer (sealed, low-care), or tinted oils to warm, deepen or lime the grain. Finished samples come to the home visit.
How much does a solid oak fitted wardrobe cost in London?
This is the summit of our range: most complete solid oak projects come to £3,200 – £10,000 including delivery and installation. A written itemised quote follows your free home design visit.
Are Metro wardrobes made in the UK?
Yes — every wardrobe is made in our own Wembley, North London workshop and installed by our own fitters, with a 10-year guarantee.
Door Edge Detail

The 6 Edge Profiles

The Six Edge Profiles

Solid oak doors carry a fine 1.2mm chamfered edge, cut directly in the solid timber.
01
Chamfered BROOKLYN OAK
18mm or 22mm core, with a soft 3mm radius on the top-front edge. The most popular profile across in-frame and contemporary doors.

02
10mm Stepped Chamfer
18mm core with a 10mm chamfered step on the top edge — adds a subtle bevel that catches the light at the door's top line.

03
1mm Chamfered Edge
A near-sharp edge with a 1mm chamfer — gives doors a crisp, architectural feel. Common on slab and minimalist styles.

04
20mm Stepped Profile
A pronounced 20mm step that creates a defined shadow line along the top edge. Adds visible architectural detail to flat-panel styles.

05
25mm Gentle Curve
A wide 25mm rolled edge — the softest profile in the range. Reads as a hand-shaped, traditional joinery detail. Often paired with shaker and panelled designs.
