Painted to order in a polyurethane finish — shades matched at your home visit (swatches shown are indicative). Brooklyn and Monroe also come in natural solid oak.
Door style and carcass can be mixed — pair Pure White doors with a Cotta Cremona Oak interior for warmth, or match for a tonal look.
About This Style

Everything else we make imitates this. The Timber Painted family is built from real wood — 20mm kiln-dried solid ash — and hand-finished in polyurethane paint, shown here in a deep forest green with brass bars, wrapping over the bed with matching bedsides and dressing table. For purists, the Brooklyn and Monroe also come as natural solid oak.

How it works: each door is joined from solid ash around a stable veneered centre panel — the construction a traditional joiner would choose, kiln-dried so it behaves in a centrally-heated home. Frames run from the Brooklyn’s slim 25mm to the Edison’s 84mm (tap the doors above to compare), edges carry a fine painted-through chamfer, and hinges are soft-close Blum. And because the wood is real, the paint is renewable: these wardrobes can be sanded and repainted in place, years from now.

Make it yours: painted to order — your designer matches shades at the home visit — or natural oak on Brooklyn and Monroe; ten Kronospan interior colours; over-bed runs, alcoves, walk-ins and corners, all built in our Wembley workshop.

Every solid wood wardrobe is designed at a free home visit, made to measure in North London, and installed by our own fitters with a 10-year guarantee.

The real thing, and why it still matters

There is a reason the best rooms in the oldest houses still hold their original joinery: solid timber, painted and repainted across generations, simply endures. This family carries that tradition into a modern workshop — kiln-dried ash frames, stable veneered panels, polyurethane paint that takes a brush again whenever you want a new colour. It costs more than a wrapped door, and it is worth more, for longer.

Every project is measured and made in our Wembley workshop — over-bed runs, alcoves, walk-ins and corners — painted to order or in natural solid oak, installed by our own fitters with a 10-year guarantee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Solid wood fitted wardrobes: your questions answered

Is this really solid wood?
The frames genuinely are — 20mm kiln-dried solid ash, joined the traditional way. Centre panels are veneered board, which is deliberate: a fully solid panel would move with every season and crack its paint. This is how quality joiners have built painted doors for a century.
Can it be repainted later?
Yes — that is the family’s superpower. Because the surface is real painted timber, it can be sanded back and repainted in place, years from now. A colour change is a decorator’s visit, not a new wardrobe.
How much does a solid wood fitted wardrobe cost in London?
This is our top tier: most complete timber projects come to £3,000 – £9,500 including delivery and installation, depending on width and internals. A written itemised quote follows your free home design visit.
Painted or natural oak — how do I choose?
Painted suits colour-led rooms and period homes (and can change later); natural solid oak — available on the Brooklyn and Monroe — celebrates the grain itself. Your designer brings samples of both to the home visit.
Are Metro wardrobes made in the UK?
Yes — every wardrobe is made in our own Wembley, North London workshop and installed by our own fitters, with a 10-year guarantee.
Door Edge Detail

The 6 Edge Profiles

The Six Edge Profiles

Timber Painted doors carry a fine 1mm chamfered edge, painted through — and can be re-finished in place.
01
Chamfered BROOKLYN
18mm or 22mm core, with a soft 3mm radius on the top-front edge. The most popular profile across in-frame and contemporary doors.

02
10mm Stepped Chamfer
18mm core with a 10mm chamfered step on the top edge — adds a subtle bevel that catches the light at the door's top line.

03
1mm Chamfered Edge
A near-sharp edge with a 1mm chamfer — gives doors a crisp, architectural feel. Common on slab and minimalist styles.

04
20mm Stepped Profile
A pronounced 20mm step that creates a defined shadow line along the top edge. Adds visible architectural detail to flat-panel styles.

05
25mm Gentle Curve
A wide 25mm rolled edge — the softest profile in the range. Reads as a hand-shaped, traditional joinery detail. Often paired with shaker and panelled designs.
