The Aldwych Bespoke Media Unit is built from contrast. Two dark towers of lit open shelving in Fimashik Oak stand either side of a plain tan panel that carries the television, and beneath them a pale, floating base of three handleless drawers runs the width of the wall with a dark top. The interiors are Brown Abano Ash.

At 300mm deep it is the shallowest wall in the media range, which is the point: the towers and the base sit against the wall as a composition, and the room keeps its floor.

How it works: the Aldwych is built from 18mm E1-grade MFC as three elements — two towers, one floating base — fixed to the wall independently. The television is wall-mounted on the central panel, which is a separate finish so the screen sits on a calm surface between the two dark towers. The base hangs off the wall on a concealed rail with its drawers below the level of the screen.

The drawers are push-to-open with no handles; the towers have no doors, and their shelves are lit from above with an LED strip in each bay.

Designed around your TV and living space

A living room that is looked at from a sofa and a garden wants a wall that is furniture, and the Aldwych is planned as two lit towers and a bench rather than as cupboards.

Built around your television: the central panel is made to the screen and the gap between the towers is set from it, so the composition is symmetrical about the television whatever its size. The panel finish is chosen against the towers — tan against dark oak in the room shown.

Keeping the living room organised: the three drawers take everything that has no place on a shelf; the towers hold what is chosen to be seen, lit. With no doors on the towers, what goes on them is decided, and the drawers keep the rest.

Built for everyday use: 18mm MFC with a solid 18mm back, top and bottom to each tower and to the base, and a concealed wall rail carrying the floating base so it takes weight without a leg.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

Three separate pieces that read as one wall have to be set out from the same line. The towers and the base are cut on the beam saw in our HA9 Wembley factory from one survey, with the shelf positions drilled on the CNC so the lit bays match left and right.

The base is machined for its concealed rail and its push-to-open runners before it leaves, the LED channels are routed into the tower tops and shelves, and every visible edge is banded on industrial equipment — the dark towers in Fimashik Oak, the base in its pale decor.

The wall, the screen and the seating are measured at your design visit, before anything is made.
