The lightest-looking door we make is also one of the most engineered: a 20.5mm aluminium profile — matt black, brushed bronze, champagne, gold or silver — wraps a full pane of toughened glass, hung on hinges designed specifically for aluminium frames. Choose smoked glass to soften the view, reeded to blur it beautifully, or clear to put a boutique-style interior on display; behind the glass, walnut, oak or lacquered interiors are finished to be seen.

The wardrobe as vitrine

Every other wardrobe on this site is designed to hide what is inside it. This one is designed to show it. The doors are toughened glass in a 20.5mm aluminium frame — no MDF, no vinyl, nothing to wrap — and behind them the interior is finished as furniture: walnut shelves, lit hanging, drawers with proper fronts, because you will be looking at them every day.

The alcove shown makes the case. Five tall glass doors in champagne frames fill a recess between two walnut side units, and through the smoked glass you read the clothes as colour and shape rather than as clutter. The same alcove is shown again in black, bronze and silver frames: black turns the smoked glass almost into a mirror until the interior lights come on, bronze warms it, silver cools it. Our Notting Hill design does something different, with clear glass in gold frames as a lit display bay in the centre of a green fluted run, and the Regents Park puts a single glass door on a walk-in.

How it works: a slim extruded aluminium frame, 20.5mm deep, holds a toughened glass panel — smoked, clear or reeded — on a hinge made specifically for aluminium-framed doors. Frames are held in standard sizes up to 2145mm high and made to measure beyond them. The interior is walnut as shown, oak or lacquered to order, with LED strips in the sides or under each shelf.

Designed around how you use your room

Glass doors change how the interior is planned. Hanging is organised by colour, shelving is shallow so nothing is buried, and the lighting is part of the design rather than an extra. In the alcove the whole recess is glass; in the Notting Hill design the glass is the centrepiece and the plain doors do the storage.

Built for everyday use: the glass is toughened, so it is safe in a bedroom, and a glass cleaner keeps it clear. Smoked glass shows fingerprints least. The frames close on soft-close hinges rated for their weight.

The carcass interior is chosen at the design visit, and on this wardrobe it is the part worth choosing carefully.

The frames are cut and mitred in our HA9 Wembley factory and glazed with toughened panels cut to each opening, so a wardrobe of odd widths — an alcove is never quite symmetrical — gets frames that fit the recess rather than the recess being packed out to suit a stock door.

The interior is built as visible furniture, lit and finished on every face, and installed by our own fitters. It carries a 10-year parts and labour guarantee.

Glass fitted wardrobes: your questions answered

Will everyone see my clothes?

Only as much as you choose. Smoked glass, as in the alcove shown, softens the interior to colour and outline — you see that there are shirts, not which shirts. Clear glass, as in our Notting Hill design, shows everything and is meant as a display bay for the things you are proud of. Reeded glass sits between the two. Most people use smoked for the main run and clear for one bay.

Is a glass door safe in a bedroom?

Yes. The panels are toughened glass, which is several times stronger than ordinary glass and, if it ever did break, crumbles into small blunt pieces rather than shards. It is the same glass used in shower screens. The aluminium frame carries it on a hinge made for the weight, so the door swings as easily as a board one.

Which frame colour should I choose?

It depends on what the frame is doing. The alcove is shown in all four: champagne warms the smoked glass and matches the walnut, black makes the frame a line and the glass nearly a mirror until the lights come on, bronze sits between the two, and silver reads coolest. Gold, on our Notting Hill design, turns a bay into a lit cabinet. Bring a sample of each to the wall; the difference is bigger in the room than on screen.

Do fingerprints show?

On clear glass, yes, as on any window, and a glass cleaner deals with them. Smoked glass hides them well, which is one reason it is the usual choice for doors you open every day. If you would rather not touch the glass at all, the frame can take a slim bar handle, or the door can be opened from the frame edge.

Can the glass doors be mixed with plain ones?

That is our Notting Hill design. Four clear-glass doors in gold frames form a lit bay in the centre, and the painted fluted doors either side hold the everyday hanging out of sight. It is the most practical way to use glass — one display bay, planned and lit as a piece of furniture, in a run that otherwise works like any wardrobe.
