The Hereford solves the loft wall most people give up on: a chimney breast in the middle of it. The run shown fills both alcoves with full-height wardrobes, bridges the fireplace with a row of top boxes, and carries on past the breast into the sloping end of the room, where the last bay is cut to the pitch of the roof.

The doors are flush slabs in Light Cashmere with slim bar handles — a pale, plain door chosen so that a large and complicated run reads as one calm surface. The fireplace stays as the room’s focal point; the wardrobe frames it rather than competing with it.

How it works: the alcoves are measured individually, because in a period house they are never the same width, and each is fitted with its own carcass scribed to the walls. The top boxes over the fireplace are made to the depth of the breast so they sit flush with the alcove doors, and the end bay under the slope is built to the height the ceiling leaves.

The doors are 18mm E1-grade MFC on concealed soft-close hinges, and the Light Cashmere finish runs through the interior.

A flush slab is the right door for a run like this. With three separate elements — two alcoves and a bridge — any moulding or frame would multiply the lines on the wall; a plain door lets the fireplace do the talking.

The two alcoves take the everyday storage. The bridge over the fireplace takes the seasonal things. The sloping end bay takes what fits under a roof.

Built for awkward spaces: a chimney breast, two uneven alcoves and a sloping ceiling in one wall is as awkward as a loft gets. The Hereford treats each element as its own piece and joins them behind one continuous run of doors.

Built for everyday use: 18mm MFC carcasses with a solid 18mm back, top and bottom. In an alcove the back panel matters most, because the plaster behind is rarely flat and never square; the wardrobe carries its own back and is scribed to the wall at the edges.

Three sets of dimensions go into a Hereford: each alcove, the bridge, and the slope. All three are cut in our HA9 Wembley factory from the survey, and the carcasses are drilled on the CNC so that shelves and hinges line through across the whole wall even though no two carcasses are the same width.

Every edge that shows — including the scribed edges against the alcove walls — is banded in Light Cashmere on industrial equipment, so the finish is continuous whether you are looking at a door, a top box or the return beside the fireplace.
