The Kingsley Walk-In Wardrobe is finished in one colour and one colour only. Midnight blue super-matt runs across the carcase, the shelves, the drawer fronts and the backs of every bay, so nothing inside the wardrobe competes with what you have hung in it. Against that, your clothes are the only thing with colour in the room.

Two details break the blue deliberately. The hanging rails are round brass, warm against the matt finish and the one piece of the wardrobe you touch every day. And a warm LED strip sits under every shelf in the tower, so the folded stacks are lit individually rather than by one light at the top.

How it works: the Kingsley is built from E1-grade moisture-resistant MFC, which is worth having in a dressing room off a bathroom or in a converted loft. The drawer fronts are handleless, opening on a shadow gap, so the blue face of the bank is unbroken from top to bottom.

The run turns a corner at one end, carrying hanging above and below with basket storage at the base, so the arrangement holds a full wardrobe in a room that has no single wall long enough to take one.

Built for everyday use: the shelf tower is the piece people notice after a month rather than on the day. Lighting each shelf separately means you can see the bottom of a folded stack without lifting the top of it.

The Kingsley shown here is midnight blue throughout, inside and out. A single dark finish makes a room feel deliberate rather than dark, provided the lighting is inside the wardrobe rather than above it — which is why the LED runs under the shelves and along the head of each hanging bay.

Why is everything the same colour?

So that nothing inside the wardrobe competes with your clothes. A two-tone interior draws the eye to the wardrobe; a single dark finish makes it recede and puts the colour on the rail instead. It also means the corner return and the shelf tower read as one piece rather than as separate cabinets pushed together.

Does a dark wardrobe make a room feel smaller?

Only if the light is in the wrong place. The Kingsley puts a warm LED strip under every shelf and along the head of each hanging bay, so the light is inside the wardrobe with the clothes rather than in the ceiling above it. A dark finish lit from within reads as depth; the same finish lit from above reads as a shadow.

Why brass rails on a blue wardrobe?

The rail is the part you touch every day and the one component that is not board. Round brass gives a warm point of contrast against a cold matt blue, and it stays looking right as it ages in a way a painted rail does not. Black or chrome are available if you would rather it disappeared.

What does moisture-resistant MFC actually give me?

It matters where a dressing room shares air with a bathroom, sits in a loft conversion, or has an external wall that runs cold. The board is more tolerant of humidity swings than standard MFC, so edges are less likely to lift over time. It is not a waterproof material and it is not a substitute for ventilation.

How does the corner return work?

The run turns at one end and carries hanging both above and below, with basket storage at the base. It is what lets the Kingsley hold a full wardrobe in a room with no single wall long enough to take one — the corner does work instead of becoming the place things go missing.

Why does a single-colour wardrobe need more precision?

Because there is nothing to hide behind. On a two-tone piece the eye reads the change of material and forgives a lot; on a wardrobe that is midnight blue from the carcase to the drawer front, every edge and every shadow gap is compared against the one next to it. How the space is divided

The Six Storage Zones

A walk-in is not one big cupboard — it is a set of zones, each sized for what goes in it. These are the six we build from, with the dimensions we actually work to. Your designer combines them around what you own rather than filling the run with a single repeated layout.

Double hang KINGSLEY WALK-IN

Two hanging tiers stacked in one bay. Each gives 950mm of clear hanging under an 18mm shelf, so the pair occupies 1936mm in total. It suits shirts, trousers, folded-over skirts and jackets, and it is the single most effective way to increase what a run holds — the same width of wardrobe carries twice the garments.

Full hang

The same 1936mm module as a double hang, used as a single drop of 1918mm clear beneath the shelf. This is where dresses, long coats and suit carriers go. Most rooms need far less full hang than people expect — two or three bays is usually plenty, and the rest is better given to double hang.

Drawer bank

A 600mm-high bank holding three soft-close drawers at 200mm each. Drawers are almost always specified at waist height rather than low down, because that is where you want the things you reach for daily — folded knitwear, underwear, belts and watches — without bending.

Open shelving

Shelves are set at 250 to 300mm apart as a minimum. A folded jumper wants 250mm; a stack of jeans or a handbag standing upright wants the full 300mm. Closer than 250mm and the shelf stops being usable for anything but paper-thin items, which is why the spacing is worth getting right at the design stage.

Shoe storage

Flat shelves at the base of a run, each with a raised front lip so nothing slides forward. Keeping shoes low leaves the eye level of the wardrobe clear for clothing, and the lip means a shelf can be shallow-set without anything tipping out when you pull a pair from the back.

The 600mm run

Every Metro walk-in run is 600mm deep, and that figure is not arbitrary — it is set by the width of a coat hanger, so anything shallower makes clothes sit at an angle and crush against the front. Two facing runs therefore use 1200mm of floor before anyone has walked anywhere, which is why two facing runs need a room of at least 2.1 metres across, and 3 metres to feel generous.
