Bloomsbury Fluted Chest of Drawers London

The Bloomsbury takes the fluted front we use on wardrobe doors and puts it on a chest. Six drawers in two banks of three, each front ribbed with fine vertical flutes so the light catches it across the day, in a warm greige that sits between white and taupe, with a slim brass bar centred on each. The top is plain, so what stands on it is seen against a quiet surface.

At about 1.4 metres wide and 820mm high it is a low chest, sized for the wall between two windows or opposite the foot of a bed, where it works as a dressing surface as much as storage.

How it works: the flutes are routed into an 18mm MDF front before it is lacquered, so the ribs are part of the front rather than applied; the two banks share a carcass with a centre divider; the drawers are 16mm solid-sided boxes on full-extension soft-close runners. The brass bars are fixed through the front into threaded inserts.

Some chests hide; this one is the point of the wall. The fluting gives it texture without pattern, the greige keeps it warm without colour, and the brass gives it a line. Beside a pair of curtains and under a picture it is furniture rather than storage.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

The Bloomsbury is cut, fluted on the CNC and sprayed in our HA9 Wembley factory, with the drawers fitted and the bars aligned before delivery.
