Hackney Shelf Chest London

The Hackney is for the room that needs somewhere to put things down as well as away. The left half is open: a long shelf across the top for the magazines and the things in use, two cubbies below for the plants, the clock and the books. The right half is three oak drawers for what should be out of sight. One top runs across both.

The frame and the shelves are a soft grey, the drawer fronts a pale oak with round black knobs, so the open side reads as shelving and the closed side as furniture.

How it works: one carcass divided by a full-height panel, with fixed shelves on the open side and three 16mm solid-sided drawers on full-extension soft-close runners on the closed side. The back is solid so the open shelves have a wall behind them, and the top is a single banded board.

Designed for a room that reads

A chest hides everything; a bookcase hides nothing. The Hackney gives a bedroom or a landing a piece that does both, at chest height, so the top is a surface for a lamp and the shelves are within reach from the bed or the chair.

Designed for the room: the drawers can be on the left, the cubbies can take a door or a basket, the shelf can be lit from above, and the finishes can be any of our woodgrains and painted colours.

Built for everyday use: the shelves are 18mm boards banded on the front edge, the drawers take 30kg, and the piece is fixed to the wall with a concealed bracket.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

The Hackney is cut and built in our HA9 Wembley factory, with the shelves fixed and the drawers fitted before delivery.
