Churchill Home Office

The Churchill Home Office is a library wall for a study or a reading room. Open shelving rises either side of a lit arched alcove in the centre, and below them a run of three drawers and shaker cupboards carries the working storage — all in textured woodgrain Black, a textured dark woodgrain, with slim black bar handles.

It is the darkest piece in the home office range and the most traditional in its shape, and in the room shown it is used as furniture rather than office: an armchair, a lamp on the counter, books on the shelves and the alcove lit as the room’s focal point.

How it works: the Churchill is built from 18mm E1-grade board with a solid back, as one wall-fixed structure: a base run of drawers and cupboards, a counter above it, and the shelving and the arch rising from the counter to the ceiling line. The alcove is a curved-top recess lit from above, deep enough for a lamp or a piece worth showing.

Doors hang on soft-close hinges; the drawers run on soft-close runners; the shelves are adjustable within the bays.

Designed around how you work

A study wall is used sitting down, from a chair or a desk facing it, so the Churchill keeps what you reach for at counter height and what you look at above.

Designed around your working position: the Churchill works with a desk placed in front of it or a chair beside it. Either way the drawers are at arm’s reach, the shelves are at eye level, and the alcove light is the light you read by in the evening.

Keeping your workspace organised: the base cupboards hide the office; the shelves hold the library; the drawers take the small things that otherwise cover a desk. What is on show is chosen, and what is not is behind a shaker door.

Built for everyday use: 18mm carcasses with a solid 18mm back, fixed to the wall, and 470mm deep — shallower than a wardrobe, so the wall of shelving does not push into the room.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

The arch is the hard part. It is cut on the CNC in our HA9 Wembley factory as a single curved head panel and lined so the light in the alcove has a smooth surface to wash down. The shelf uprights either side are drilled on the same machine so the shelves sit level with each other across the arch.

The shaker fronts are machined individually and the textured woodgrain Black finish is banded on every visible edge on industrial equipment, so the dark board shows no light edge anywhere on the wall.

The wall, the ceiling and the skirting are measured at your design visit, and the run is scribed to them on installation.
