Durham Black Glass Sliding Wardrobe with black tinted glass sliding doors, matt black aluminium frame, carbon grey interior and soft-close sliding system by Metro Home Interiors in London.

Door Construction

Inside the sliding door

A sliding door is an assembly rather than a single board. An aluminium profile runs around the perimeter of an 18mm MFC panel — or a mirror — and grips it on all four sides, so the panel is held in a frame rather than hung from hinges. Behind the doors we build a 200mm-wide internal MFC panel frame, finished to match your carcass. That frame is the structural part: it carries the weight of the doors and holds the top and bottom tracks true across the full run, so the load goes into the wardrobe rather than into your wall. Each door runs on its own track, which is what lets them pass one another.

Why this build matters

No floor space given to the doors

The doors travel across the front instead of swinging out, so nothing has to be kept clear in front of the wardrobe. It is the whole reason to choose sliding over hinged in a tight room.

The frame carries the weight, not the wall

A full-height mirror door is heavy. The 200mm MFC frame behind the front takes that load and keeps both tracks in line, which is what stops a long run dropping out of true over time.

The panel is held, not glued on

The aluminium profile grips the panel on all four sides. Nothing is bonded to the face, so there is no edge to lift and the same door can carry board, mirror or glass.

“Excellent service from design consultation through to completion. Great value with superb quality fitted wardrobes. The designer - Nitesh - helped us maximise the available storage space without busting our budget. The crew led by Sandeep was very professional, meticulous in the build and left the house spotless. We selected the super matt finish which is a little bit more expensive but looks fantastic. Our bedroom is transformed in the best possible way.”
