Fitzrovia Modern Classic Shaker Wardrobe

The Fitzrovia Modern Classic Shaker Wardrobe is a shaker that has been given a period panel. Instead of a plain recess, each door carries a raised moulding with stepped corners, so the panel stands proud of the frame the way a Georgian door’s would — and in Cashmere matt, a warm off-white, the shadow the moulding throws is the whole decoration.

The doors hang in pairs, three pairs across the run shown, each pair with two slim matt black bars meeting at the centre. The inside is Cashmere too.

How it works: the Fitzrovia profile — frame, step and raised panel — is routed into a single 18mm E1-grade board in one pass and wrapped in one seamless Cashmere skin, so a moulding that would be four applied pieces on a timber door is one shape here, with no joint for the finish to open along. Doors hang on concealed soft-close hinges.

A raised panel is the one shaker detail that reads from across a room, which is why it suits a bedroom where the wardrobe faces the bed.

Built for everyday use: 18mm MFC carcasses with a solid 18mm back, top and bottom. The moulding is routed and wrapped, not applied, so nothing can lift, and the matt skin wipes clean.

The Fitzrovia shown measures 3600mm wide x 2400mm high x 600mm deep. Yours is made to your wall.

A stepped moulding is a deeper cut than a shaker recess, and the corners are where a poor one shows. The Fitzrovia profile is routed on the CNC in our HA9 Wembley factory with the step and the raise cut in one programme, so every corner on every door steps the same way.

The doors are wrapped and trimmed before they leave and hung to your survey sizes on site by our own fitters.

What makes it a “modern classic” shaker?

The panel. A shaker has a flat recessed panel; the Fitzrovia has a raised one with stepped corners, the profile of a period panelled door. It keeps the shaker frame and proportions — that is the modern part — and adds the one classical detail that reads from across a room. In a plain matt colour it is the shadow that does the work.

Is the moulding applied to the door?

No — it is cut into it. The frame, the step and the raised panel are routed into one board and the Cashmere finish is wrapped over the whole profile, so there is no separate moulding to lift and no joint for the finish to crack along. On a timber door the same profile would be four pieces of moulding pinned on.

Why are the doors in pairs?

Because the moulding wants a partner. A raised panel on a single door reads as a cupboard; two mirrored panels with their bars meeting in the middle read as a pair of doors to a room. The run shown is three pairs, and the bays behind each pair are planned as one wide hanging space or two narrow ones.

Does Cashmere show marks?

Less than white. Cashmere is a warm off-white matt that hides the finger marks a pure white shows, and the raised panel means the flat area of the door — where hands go — is the frame around it, not the panel. The wrapped skin wipes with a damp cloth.
