Inside the grooved door

The grooved door is a 5G Vinyl construction: a 0.4mm vinyl face is bonded with polyurethane adhesive over an 18mm E1-grade MDF core, and the grooves are machined into the board itself rather than applied as a moulding. MDF is used rather than chipboard because it has no grain and a dense, uniform core — every groove has two edges, and on a coarser board those edges would break up under a dark finish. Because the vinyl is wrapped over the whole profile, the face, the grooves and the edge are one continuous surface with no seam to catch.

Why this build matters

The grooves are cut, not stuck on

They are machined into the board on the same CNC that cuts the door to size, so the spacing is identical on every door in the run and nothing can lift or peel.

A wrapped face, not a painted one

The 0.4mm vinyl is drawn over the whole profile in one piece. There is no seam at the groove and no join at the edge for daily use to work at.

Why MDF for this door

No grain, dense and uniform. That is what lets each groove hold a crisp edge under a dark finish, where a coarser core would speckle and break up.

About This Style

The Georgiana is the most decorative wardrobe in the hinged range. Its black doors are fluted rather than flat, with fine vertical reeding machined into an 18mm MDF face, and the run is broken by two openings in Cotta Cremona Oak — a lit open display column at one end and a dressing table with a full mirror at the other.

Brushed brass bar handles are the warm note against the black. Because the oak sections are open, the contrast is visible with every door closed rather than only when the wardrobe is used.

The Georgiana is the most decorative wardrobe in the hinged range. Its black doors are fluted rather than flat — fine vertical reeding across the full face — and the run is broken by two openings in warm oak: a lit display column at one end and a dressing table with a full mirror at the other.

How it works: the fluting is machined into an 18mm MDF door rather than applied as a moulding. MDF has no grain and a dense, uniform core, which is what lets a black finish hold a crisp edge on every rib; on a coarser board the arrises would break up.

Fluting turns a black door into a surface that changes through the day. Flat black absorbs light and goes dead; a reeded face catches it on every rib and throws a fine vertical shadow, so the wardrobe reads as texture rather than as a dark wall. The brass handles and oak openings are the warm notes against it.

Built for everyday use: the carcass is an 18mm solid-back unit in premium melamine-faced board to E1 Grade, with the oak carried through the open sections. The dressing table top is carried on the carcasses either side, so it takes its support from the run rather than from legs.

Your wardrobe is made to measure and precision-manufactured in our HA9 Wembley factory, from the design approved at your home visit through to the finished components. A fluted door is only as good as the consistency of its ribs. The profile is machined by CNC from one digital file across every door, so the reeding lines up where two doors meet and the run reads as a continuous surface.

Our beam saw optimises board usage across both the black and oak components, 6-side drilling sets the hinge and shelf positions, and industrial edge-banding gives each part a consistent finished edge.
