Sloane Fluted Bedside London

The Sloane is the bedside for a calm, pale room: a warm cream rather than a white, fine flutes that catch the light from the window, and slim brass bars. Two deep drawers stand on a plain plinth at the height of the mattress, with a top for a lamp, a book and the things worth having beside a bed.

Beside an upholstered headboard in a similar tone it is barely there, which is the point of a bedside in a room designed to be slept in.

How it works: two drawer boxes with 16mm solid sides run on soft-close runners inside a carcass with a solid back; each front is routed with its flutes before it is sprayed in the cream, and the brass bars are bolted through into inserts. The lamp lead drops through a cut-out at the back.

Designed for a soft room

White is hard against linen and timber; cream is not. The Sloane is lacquered in a warm cream that sits between the bedding and the floor, and its flutes give it a surface without a pattern, so it belongs to the room rather than standing out in it.

Designed for the room: most Sloanes are ordered in pairs; a high bed takes a third drawer, a low bed a shallower top, and the cream can be swapped for any painted colour where fluted wardrobe doors in the room set the tone.

Built for everyday use: a damp cloth runs along the flutes without catching, the brass is solid rather than plated so it ages evenly, and the edges of the top are banded so a water ring lifts off.

The fronts are routed on the CNC and sprayed in the cream in our HA9 Wembley factory, the carcass is built and the drawers hung and adjusted there, so the bedside arrives finished.
