Surrey Loft Wardrobe London

The Surrey is a loft wardrobe without doors, and in a loft that is often the right answer. Doors need room to swing; an open dressing run does not. The one shown turns the corner of a small attic room in Cotta Cremona Oak, with hanging on the long wall, shelving and shoe storage stepping down under the slope, and a lit panel on the return by the door.

Cotta Cremona Oak is a warm, mid-toned woodgrain, and here it is the whole wardrobe — carcasses, shelves, end panels and the lit return — because with no doors the inside is the outside. Everything you own is on show, which is why the shelving is planned tightly and the finish runs through every face.

How it works: the run is built as an L. The long leg carries a full-height hanging bay and a double-hang bay; the short leg turns under the slope with shelving that steps down as the ceiling does, ending in shoe shelves where the roof meets the floor. A lit panel on the far return lights the room and the rail.

Carcasses and shelves are 18mm E1-grade MFC; where drawers are added they run on soft-close runners, and doors can be fitted to any bay later if you change your mind.

Open storage in a loft has one more advantage: the lowest bays, which a door could never clear, are simply shelves you reach down to.

Built for awkward spaces: the Surrey uses the corner, which most wardrobes waste, and the slope, which most wardrobes stop short of. The L-shape turns a small loft into a dressing room without taking the floor a swinging door would need.

Built for everyday use: 18mm MFC carcasses with solid 18mm backs — on open storage the back panel is visible behind every shelf, so it is finished in the same oak and fixed square to the wall, not left as bare plaster.

The Surrey shown measures 4568mm across the two legs x 2361mm high x 600mm deep. Yours is planned to your corner and your roof.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

With no doors to hide behind, every edge of the Surrey is a finished edge. The shelves, the stepped panels under the slope and the corner post are all banded in Cotta Cremona Oak on industrial equipment in our HA9 Wembley factory, and the shelf positions are drilled by CNC so the rows line through around the corner.

The stepped panels are cut on the beam saw to the roof pitch taken at survey, so the shelving follows the ceiling with the same gap at every step.
