MFC — melamine-faced chipboard — is the universal cabinet board of the European furniture industry, produced to the same exacting specification by the leading European board mills: a stable chipboard core with a hard-wearing melamine décor face fused to both sides. Every Metro door and panel is machined from premium E1-grade board in our own Wembley workshop — cut to your exact sizes, with each edge banded in the same colour — so the door face, its edges and the carcass all read as one material.

Daphne Hinged Wardrobe

The Daphne is built around a window rather than pretending it is not there. Two runs of walnut rise to 2700mm either side of the opening, the sill is carried across as a shelf above the radiator, and the run finishes at the corner with a curved open unit rather than a hard edge.

How it works: each door is a flush slab faced in Natural Pacific Walnut on an 18mm E1 Grade MFC board. ST10 is a textured finish, so the grain is embossed into the surface and can be felt as well as seen — that texture is what stops a woodgrain board reading as a print of timber.

The grain runs vertically on every door and is planned to read continuously along each run, so the two elevations either side of the window look like one wall interrupted rather than two separate wardrobes. The same walnut continues inside.

Splitting the run around the window gives the room two tall banks and a natural place to sit or set things down. Depending on your design, the Daphne can include:

Built for everyday use: the wardrobe is built on an 18mm solid-back unit in premium melamine-faced board to E1 Grade. At 2700mm the solid back does real structural work, holding the carcass square over that height instead of relying on a wall that is rarely flat to the ceiling.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

Your wardrobe is made to measure and precision-manufactured in our HA9 Wembley factory, from the design approved at your home visit through to the finished components. Woodgrain boards have a direction, so they cannot be nested arbitrarily. Our beam saw plans the cut with the grain running the same way on every door, which is what makes two runs either side of a window read as one continuous wall of walnut.

The curved corner unit is machined rather than built up from straight components, intelligent CNC and 6-side drilling place hinge and shelf-pin positions across all doors, and industrial edge-banding wraps the walnut around every visible edge.

Is the walnut real timber or a finish?

Natural Pacific Walnut H3700 ST10 is a woodgrain decor on an 18mm E1 Grade MFC board, not solid timber. ST10 is a textured finish, so the grain is embossed and can be felt as well as seen.

Will the grain line up across the doors?

Yes. The cutting pattern is planned with the grain running the same way on every door, so the two runs either side of the window read as one wall of walnut rather than as separate wardrobes.

Can the wardrobe be built around a window?

That is what the Daphne is designed for. The runs stop either side of the reveal and the sill is carried across as a shelf above the radiator, so the window stays clear and usable.

Why a curved unit at the corner?

A square corner at the end of a 2700mm run is something you walk into. Curving it removes the edge and gives you open shelving where a closed cupboard would be hard to reach anyway.

Will the walnut fade in a sunny room?

The decor is a stable melamine surface rather than a natural veneer, so it does not darken or patinate the way solid timber does. It is also highly scratch resistant.
