MFC — melamine-faced chipboard — is the universal cabinet board of the European furniture industry, produced to the same exacting specification by the leading European board mills: a stable chipboard core with a hard-wearing melamine décor face fused to both sides. Every Metro door and panel is machined from premium E1-grade board in our own Wembley workshop — cut to your exact sizes, with each edge banded in the same colour — so the door face, its edges and the carcass all read as one material.

Penelope Hinged Wardrobe

The Penelope solves working from a bedroom without turning it into an office. A desk is recessed into the middle of the run between two full-height wardrobes, with lit cupboards above it, so the workspace is set back into the elevation rather than standing out in the room.

How it works: the desk top is cut from the same 18mm board as the doors and carried on the wardrobe carcasses either side. Nothing supports it from the floor, so the space beneath is completely open — you can pull a chair right in, and the floor reads as continuous under it.

Cupboards above the desk carry integrated downlights, which is what makes the recess usable as a working surface rather than a dark alcove. Satin brass knobs are used on the wardrobe doors and the cupboards alike, warming an otherwise Pure White elevation.

The run is planned so that work and clothes do not compete for the same space. Depending on your design, the Penelope can include:

Built for everyday use: each bay is an 18mm solid-back unit in premium melamine-faced board to E1 Grade. The units either side of the desk carry its top, so they take a load a wardrobe carcass would not normally see and have to stay square under daily use.

Manufactured in our Wembley workshop

Your wardrobe is made to measure and precision-manufactured in our HA9 Wembley factory, from the design approved at your home visit through to the finished components. The desk recess is the part with no tolerance — the top has to meet both carcasses flush, the cupboards above have to line through with the wardrobe doors, and the lighting has to be machined in before anything is assembled.

Our beam saw optimises the board usage across the run, intelligent CNC and 6-side drilling machine the fixings that carry the desk and the recesses for the downlights, and industrial edge-banding finishes the desk edge to the same standard as the doors.
